I am in the market for a good set of tires. I've had enough of gettin taken off the line by 400ex's,Raptor's and other slower bikes. Was thier a sport tire shoot out in the october 2001 of atv action magazine? If so does anyone know what tire won? I want to be able to hang off the front of my DS then dump the clutch at 7 grand and do a complete back flip.(lol) Or at least wheelie over. Right now I can hang off the back of it and spin through 1st and 2nd and part of 3rd. Even from a roll in my 2nd gear will send the tires spinning just easing into the throtle. I dont really want to go with 22in tires. I would like to find a good set of 20 in sport tires. THANKs.

 

The tire shoot out was a good one. The tire that they rated best for traction was the turf tamers but they are ify on how tuff they are. The next best tire is one I have been looking for ever since. It is called a Kenda Bull Dawg. They were way impressed with it. They also liked the new kenda Desert Dawg. Again can't find. All the others were about the same with the Dominators(stock on DS) coming in very last and totaly sucking. I have heard the tires on the Baja are very very good but werent tested in the test. I am looking into getting some Bandits in 22" because I am geared down for duning. They performed very well also in the test. Let us know what you go with and how they perform when you get them.

 

I love my Holeshot XCT's. Ever since I put them on NEVER has a Rappy or 400EX got the holeshot on me again.

 

I made the switch to Maxxis Razr's (22" rear and 23" front) and man what a difference. Just my 2 pennies.

 

Razr's, Holeshot's, shredder's... All good tires! Remember how the stock kendas were! I like my razr's!

 

I agree, the 23/22" holeshots (Front/Rear) are an awesome combination. It gives you clearance, and somewhere to put all that power. As for 20s... The Stock Baja tires are VERY popular, I have a feeling no matter how much traction you get out of a 20" tire, the DS can spin it. The 22" tire has a lot more tire-to-ground contact, which provides a lot more traction.

 

On the advice of DS650stage1 I bought 20" Turf Tamer rear tires. They are awesome traction wise. So far they have held up well. Now when racing I have to sit up almost on the gas tank & sometimes have to get out of the gas in 1st & 2nd so as to not stand it straight up. They are much better than the Kendas. I only paid $38 each. I'm not sure how long they'll last though. The tread is soft, but way grippy.

 

I'm running the 22"/23" razr's and couldn't be happier. The rear tires have great bite but the rubber is a fairly soft compound. I am wondering how long they will last. They cost me $42 a piece from RockyMountain and they only weigh 3 pounds more per tire(I got the 4 ply rear Razrs). I have also heard only good things about turf tamers, but I can only see them being good on hardpacked dirt.

 

I had 18" tamers on my old warrior and they were incredible. They were surprisingly good in snow as well. I'd think they would be equally good in loose dry stuff. The side walls are pretty wimpy though. If you do a lot of rock bashing, gnarly roots and the like, a puncture would be not hard to do.

 

you every heard if you can't beat them join them. well sell the ds and buy a 400ex or raptor.
