I am installing a +4 Timmy Boy swing arm.
I want to get a shock that is shorter to bring the rear-end back down to where it is supposed to be.I know this will put the chain against the roller more often, but I am willing to deal with it.I called WorksPerformance they said they can do it,but need some measurements.
The problem I have is I want order the rear shock now and all my parts are getting chromed.
Has anybody done this or have these lengths for a +4 Timmy swing arm?
Works is asking for certain mearements as follows:
All center to center
A)pivot to upper shock mount "I have"
B)pivot to lower shock mount "I need"
C)pivot to center of axle "I need"
D)length of stock shock fully extended "I have"
E)amount of shaft showing with adding a 1/2" for the bumper(to be done fully extended) "I need"
Any info would be helpfull.
Thanks
Jeff

I got my +4" timmyboy swingarm installed last weekend. I still have the OEM rear shock. I had to increase the preload to stiffen up the rearend due to the extra leverage. I weigh around 170lbs and the OEM rear shock was too stiff for me. I haven't ridden the DS yet. I am hoping I can get by with the shock the way it is, at least for the short term.

Can clarify what the pivot is? Is this the point where the swingarm attaches to the frame? If so, dimension "B" should be the same as the stock swingarm. Given this, you can determine "C" by calculation. I don't understand "E".

I have some non-zoom 35mm pics (jpg) of my setup.

ScoobyDFW,
The pivot is the point where the swing arm attaches to the frame.
I am assuming for "B" that the shock position is the same, but with out the new swing arm in front of me I would like to know for sure.
Your right about "C" It should be 4" over stock.
On "E" I think they are asking the length of shaft exposed to determine travel.
These are questions they faxed me today.
I was thinking I would have to the arm installed with the stock shock to get the info they need.
How much higher then stock (in the back)does your DS sit now?

jeff it will look awsome with the swing arm.but you will proabably want to rebuild your shock any ways to compensate for the torque applied by the longer swing arm.

ps: i wrote you a long clearer post but i erased it before i sent it so this will have to do.call me next week and ill explain what i found.call any time!

ps: why did you corrupt blkds he is a animal now??????????

Even with the +4" swingarm, I am still able to increase rear shock preload & damping to a point where the shock is too stiff for my weight of 170lbs. The ATV was slightly unlevel at this particular shock setting. If I loosen up the shock a little, it may sit level.

The next problem you will have is a total lose of traction and acceleration, can you say smoke the tires!

I have 20 horse more than others and we run close because I cannot hook up.
