I saw an ad in atv sport magazine for trinity and it says the 720 from them without the pipe costs $2099. Is that true?

If so, how come they can build a 720 raptor less than half the cost of a 760 DS. I love my ds and it kicks butt, but the price of mods is so high it drives me crazy.

Maybe I should build the raptor into a hillshooter and then keep the baja relatively mild for all other riding.

hhmmmmm

I wish more companies would jump on the ds bandwagon, so we could benefit from more r&d.

oh well, just venting a little. But if we are not careful there will be a lot more fast raptors out there and we will be left wondering why oh why........

You're right - we need more companies on the DS bandwagon. Right now the options are so limited that we're getting raped for cash because people know they can.
Why does getting another 110 cc's have to cost as much as the whole bike itself?
I can buy a new 350 chevy crate motor for what it costs just to go high compression with a set of new cams, no boring or sleeving required!
Supply and demand sucks.

Hey Bat, I know the owner of Trinity. (my wife's and Dave's quads were built by them). Anyway he's been trying to get me to get rid of the Ds and get a Raptor since he developed the 686. That was for about $1,600. I almost went for it too. I'm glad I didn't but could have saved a ton of money. The 686 is comparible to the 703, and I also spent the money on a RWR stage 2.

Can you say $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Vegas, I hear ya man. It is temting, but technically the raptor is my wifes, and she says NO!!!!!

I guess it will stay as is, it is still fun to ride, but not near as fun as the ds.

Oh well, maybe I should build a 500cc banshee like daves. I will have to keep dreaming.

I am soooooo looking forward to riding this weekend it is not even funny. I wish the week would just go by and I could get down to little sahara.

Anyone know what the reliability factor is for that low cost 720? Harry (Trinity Racing) does pretty decent work, but I've always been a fan of the 'you get what you pay for' theory. I guess if I had a Raptor, I wouldn't be as worried about reliability, because that wouldn't have been my primary concern when purchasing the machine.

The cylinder is why the Raptor is so much cheaper to build. It has a sleeve, whereas the DS is a one piece casting. From a stock standpoint the rotax is a much more advanced design with respect to heat transfer and bore life of the nicasil cylinder. From a builder's point of view the sleeved cylinder is far superior for obvious reasons. With the redesigned Pami cylinder you get a far more reliable big bore than a sleeve will ever hope to be. Again, heat transfer in a resleeved cylinder is never as good as stock. The engineers are some amazing people who did their homework. Some hop up shop may make a nice product, but they don't have the R&D to do it like the factory. Such is life, but like someone already said, you get what you pay for.

I'm sorry that my prices drive people crazy. I've spoken to other manufacturers and builders, and they can't believe I survive on the small margine I charge. 760's could be done cheaper if we didn't do any mods to improve reliability[like others], but we figure folks would prefer to spend there money only once.

I can tell you one thing though, there will be fewer companies on the DS bandwagon befor there will be more. With absolutely no support from Bombardier, and in a market were loyalty takes a far back seat to price[from most potential customers], I'm not sure why I stay in it. I do know that there are far too few DS's in the market place for other manufacturers to spend money on the R&D. The more manufacturers involved, the less each one of them will sell, hence the harder to recoup there R&D investment. Last years Raptor sales were about 4 times the total # of DS's sold since it's introduction. Would you want to spend your money developing and marketing parts for that small of a market? I have, and if my piece of the pie gets any smaller, I'll look for a new pie myself.

Oh well, just venting a little.
