Is the ds 650 baja only for men?

I rode with someone smaller than you in the Dunes and they loved the DS (in fact they led the pack.)
You know your riding area(s) and if you will ever get stuck. It is a beast. If you never get stuck or you are always riding with others, go for it.
I think the Z400 LOOKS like a nice package but, I would not suggest a first model year purchase. Just look on the Yammy forum and do a search on bad transmissions on the first model year ('01).

I tip the scales at a whopping 140lbs, and have to agree with everyone else. The only time the DS's weight is a problem, is when I get stuck in the sand. Even then, it's more the long travel of the suspension than the weight; considering how much farther you have to pick the tail up, before the wheels are actually out of the hole!
However, I appreciate the extra size of the machine...for safety of all things! Having broken both wrists during a crash on my old 250X, I like the fact that the size, weight, and suspension of the DS makes it nearly impossible for me crash on. At least without me doing something stupid. It doesn't want to 2-wheel through fast corners. If I get sideways off a jump, the landings are still controlable, and the sand "whoops" are no longer like trying to ride a mechanical bull. For me, that's much more important than having to wrestle it out of a hole once in awhile.

Lightweight,
I know what you mean about pulling the rump of a DS up and out of the sand. I spent my entire first day at Pismo Sand dunes doing exactly that due to the very lacking (in everything) Kenda Trakkers. By the next trip, I had purchased some 21x10x12 Sand Skate I tires, and I spent the whole day riding. With the better tires, I never had to dig the rump out once! I could even take off on uphill slopes, where smaller quads were getting stuck! At that point, life was complete. Now I want more.
