Just picked up a 00 ds, I love it. Anyway, I was wondering how much of an advantage is it having the full pipe? Does anyone know the horse power difference? I want to get a pipe but a full system is mucho dinero. My bro in-law was saying sometimes a slip on is just as good depending on the manufacturers of the bike and pipe. So my questions is, is a full system worth the extra dollars, or will a slip on give me almost as much power?

This very question has been pondered many times on this forum. The general consensus is that the power realized with a full system is not worth the extra money. It does look better though (as long as the finish doesn't peel) then the stock inlet pipe. Put the extra money into other mods like a CDI or tires or something with more bang for the buck. My .02

I would agree with JS, although I have not ridden a ds with a slip on.

I went with the big gun and have been somewhat happy, but not completely satisfied. IF I were doing it again, I would be looking into the yoshi pipe. Bearman I think sells them, but I am not sure.

I also have to agree. Before I got my HMF pipe, I researched all of the manufactuers dyno "claims" I could find. While they all had different HP numbers for a "stock" DS, the "piped" numbers were all about the same. This is how one company could claim a 12 hp improvement, while another would only claim 6 hp. Those who made a bigger claim, simply listed lower "stock" hp. Overall, I didn't think the 1-2 hp gain of going with a full system was worth the extra $200, so I bought the HMF slip-on for $180 and couldn't be happier.

Oh, sand45 is right. I forgot that you had the slip on. So, if I were doing it again, I would definatly go with a slip on instead of a full system.

I may change mine to some kind of slip on, but as of yet am not going to.

sand45, how you doing?
