-80 lbs DS has definatly got my blood pumpin. How sweet that would be accept for the fact that it will make all DSs before it obsolete. The very cool Baja??? obsolete baby! Push it to the back of the garage and make room for the new ride. I guess we all knew it would happen sooner or later.

Now, if they made all parts interchangable we'd be talkin.
Aluminum frame assy.- $2000 -45lbs
" sub frame. - $400 -5 lbs
" swing arm. - $500 -10lbs
" Various items $500 -20lbs

I know I know.. time to wake up

The only way I see them making the DS650 80 pounds lighter is by doing two things-- different engine and smaller dimensions...

Sorry guys...I have been at the dez...great trip...I have been told we will start seeing the new models in September...and yes...this is true...no April fools. The lighter DS650 for sure...other models maybe a lil longer. Funny how faster information ( internet/message boards ) make us more impatient...just remember the old days when you had to read it the magazine.

Ken:

If dimensions are the same, sign me up. I want the first one.

Don't tell my wife, I have a little over 3 mos. the explain this one to her. I might have to do what you did and give her my old one. Heck, I just broke it in for her.

I had heard most of the same things about 6 months ago, but was asked to keep things quiet. The DS on a diet was going though durability and feasability testing, and some version of it will be "sneak previewed" befor the end of the year[from what I heard]. Although, it may not actually make it into the next model year line up and it may not be the full 75lbs. lighter, a lighter DS is on the way.

The displacement of the 2-stoke is a point of disagreement from sorces within Bombardier. I've heard as large as a 380 twin, and as small as a 175 single[high performance-not the Rally motor].

The rumors about the 400cc DS started shortly befor the Outlander was first revealed, and I honestly think they hold the least chance for an upcoming reliese. That's not to say it won't happen, but don't hold your breath on it. You could buy and wear out another bike befor the DS400 gets reliesed. But then again, maybe they are just keeping it quieter than the others, and it is coming out soon.

From the top down, Bombardier is MUCH more concerned about the utility market than the sport side, so don't expect a flood of new sport bikes from them at any time, but I'm sure they will let something out soon.
