Powder Coat vs. Normal Paint
#2
Kodiak,
Powder coating is a granlated plastic that is very, very fine. It is applied with a special gun that charges it and the frame is grounded. This causes the powder to stick to the part. It is than placed into a electric oven and baked until all the powder melts and due to surface tension provides a nice chemicial and tough coating. Make sure all clearance holes and threads are protected unless you want to spend hours getting that stuff off.
Auto paint would not be a long term fix, it scratches off easily, but is easy to repair.
Do a search on the web for POR-15 it is a two part epoxy paint that is incedable strong adn can be applied using brush, sprayer, dipping.
Hope that helps.

I agree with sheeman, you cant beat the powdercoat off if you tried. The guy that did mine told me id never get it off. I used auto paint on my hubs and Ive already had to redo them twice in almost a year. I do alot of dune riding though. The next time I paint the hubs, it will be powdercoated. Take a look at my warrior and all the yellow was powdercoated except the hubs.
