Want more power, what's next (after basic bolt-ons)?

I have done all the basic bolt on modifications (K&N, Dynojet, slip on pipe - ProCircuit, Woods CDI) what is the next step to get me more power?

I don't want to have to run race gas (want to stay with pump gas.) I also don't want to sacrafice any reliability with any package I go with.

I enjoy going up comp hill at Sand Mt. but, most of my time is spent going up the steepest parts of the hill and around the back side trails and in the canyon shooting up the steep sides. I also want to be able to ride around the local areas when I can't make the trip to Sand Mt. Sometimes I putt around with my wife and daughter so, don't want to have any overheating or other issues.

The 703 kit sounds pretty good but, not sure I want to go that far.

What would race cams get me? How about a higher compression piston (not the highest compression piston since I want pump gas.)

How much would you spend on these mods?

Thanks.

Well, I have been where you are at and asked the same questions. I am still here.

Basically if you dont want to go to a 703, or 760 then you can do cams, piston, and carb mods.

I was going to order the team pami cams, piston and the mikuni 45mm carb from knutz and then something happened and I had to cancel my order.

It was going to run me around $1200 or so with all the gaskets and stuff.

I know that majorecho has done this, with the dual 39mm carbs and really likes the way it runs. I have not seen him race or even really run it, so I cannot comment on it.

I think if I were you, I would wait and see what trinity has in store. I am not sure what they might be coming out with.

With all the problems Knutz is going through, I would be hesitant at this point to try and get a pami kit done. Also, you want someone to be around in case you need service on it down the road.

When I was talking about doing it, Knutz said the best gains would come by doing the cams, and piston and carb.

I hope that helps some.

Dont forget about head porting. That alone with some better cams would provide a great SOP improvement without sacrificing reliability. Price could vary and if you are capable of doing your own head porting you can really save some $$$.

On the topic of cams, can you buy cams ready to drop in, or do you have to send in your cams to be reground.

Marky, is there a kit made for the shim under bucket design, or what??

What carb are you guys running after piston and cam changes??

Thanks

What kind of increase in power should I expect from these modifications (Cams, pump gas ready piston, carb & carb mount K&N and porting)?

Does anyone have HP numbers?

I am liking the sound of this package but, should I go ahead and get the larger valves (basically Woods Stage 3)?

Is the TM45 much more difficult to jet than the stock carb? I can re-jet my stock carb in about 10 minutes. With the various altitudes I ride in easy re-jetting is an issue.

Thanks.

No matter how much power you get, you still won't be able to outrun your neighbor.

The 45mm carb is way faster and easier to jet. It has a main jet cap, screw off the cap, jet, cap on, Walla! I really like mine, it has helped my rig out quite a bit. You definetly notice a big difference over the stock or RWR 42mm carb.

Maybe not but, only when we are racing the LT-80's against eachother

My next step will be porting of the head, as well as the intake manifold matched to the carb throat diameter. Then I'll have as much as I can get from a stock motor, and still be in stock class.
