Greetings,
I want to do the 10 hr maintenance on my new DS 650. Most of the stuff is no problem. Can anybody out there tell me the procedure for checking/setting the valves? What is the gap supposed to be? I have an 02 Baja and can't get the shop manuel for it (backordered), my wife has an 03 Rally for which I have the book, is the procedure going to be about the same. Any help would be appreciated. Big riding weekend coming up, so the sooner the better.

Big:

Check your e-mail.

Majorecho's link is for the BMW F650 (same engine as the DS.) This looks to be a great set of directions on how to do the work. I had my dealer perform the 10 hour service.

Good luck.

Is the dealer the only place to get a shim kit?

no, the dealer isn't the only place to get the shims. they are 29mm shims available at various online stores, however i've found bmw motorcycle shops have the best prices. if you know the shim size, i also have the directions and the bmw part #'s on my website.

the BMW part numbers are on the link above.
You can also buy shims from Ron Wood Racing, $5.00 each, all you need to tell them is the thickness in mm needed. A bit more than BMW prices, but I don't have a BMW dealer close by, and they ship them to you right away.

Thanks you guys, you all rock! I would like to take the thing to the dealer for the 10 hr service but after having bought 4 new quads in one shot, I kinda blew my wad and I figure it is probably a good thing to learn to do all of this stuff myself. With guys like you on line, it should be a lot easier than trial and error!
