My DS is having major problems running hot this summer. Im going to replace the coolant with Engine Ice. While calling around to the dealerships yesterday trying to find someone who sells it. I ran across a dealership who said "We dont have Engine Ice, but we have something better. Its called Water Wetter" .. Anybody ever heard of this stuff?

I believe Redline makes it. Its been around for a while. I tried it before with no dofference in my car, but some swear by it. Distilled water at a 70/30 ratio with antifreeze should yield your best heat dissipation

BIGR,

Yeah, I've heard of it they sell it at most of the auto parts stores. It supposed to reduce the surface tension of the coolant.

I have a 71 F-250 with a 390 in it. It's been bored 30 over, cam, edelbrock carb and intake, port and polished heads, blue printed, all the stuff to make a torque machine. When I had the radiator cored and the truck back toghther it ran around 200F in traffic. I put the recommended amount in the truck and didn't notice any change. I run a 160 thermostat. I will be getting a new alum. radiator soon though.

Just my expierance.

Smitty

I have used it alot in my DS(works great 10 to 15 degrees cooler),but beware we put some in a friends DS....then on a trip to sand mountain in 10 degree weather the stuff froze(with out him knowing)and when he tried to start it,he broke the water pump gear.
I would not use it in the winter
Jeff

ditto on what jeff said, i use it with 10% anti freeze and distilled water. works great for the very mild winters (~25deg up) here in the southwest. since using it the fan has only come on when sitting at idle for an extended amount of time.
p.s. i do have radiator shrouds as well.

Do a search on the net for Water Wetter, or Redline, all kinds of info on it. Like the other guys said - decrease surface tension - by decreasing the amount of micro bubbles on the surface of the cooling jacket, to wick the heat away more efficiently. It has no freeze protection though, and when used in conjunction with antifreeze, its efficiency drops rather quickly. If not mixed in proper proportions with antifreeze, sludge will appear over time, from what I read that is - no experience.

I ran it in my Dale this last weekend at LS, Utah Dunes. My fan was on 90% of the time. It was 90 or so outside. The jury is still out. I'd say I'm not impressed, YET!! Saint Anthonys this weekend. I'll be listening for the fan, but it will only be in the low to mid 80's...

WATER WETTER was desigend to add to water for fighting fires it actualy thins water making it more absorbent so a truck full of water is more efective.i don't know if any dept's even use it any more but they must if there still making it.if you were going to try and run it in a engine i would recomend a little glyserol in the mix and wham you have engine ice.
