ScoobyDFW, I ride 50/50 trail/dunes. The trails I ride on most often are through dense forest. The trails are cleared for full size 4x4 trucks so the DS650's width is not an issue. These trails are long (20 to 45 miles) and are very whooped out and sandy. I am concerned about any tendency the DS650 may have to take its' own direction when pounding through the whoops or deep sand. There are many sections where you can go flat out for about a 1/2 mile and then suddenly come on 100 to 200 yards of whoops.

I don't need to wheelie but like how easy it is to carry the front end of my 400EX through the whoops.

How do you think the 650 would do in these sort of conditions?

At the local dealer in Louisiana, the DS 650 would
be $7200.00 with dealer prep. That's not with tax,
title, etc. I'm not as lucky as you all to be the owner of this Y2K Goliath, but hopefully when the other prod. units come out, I will be able to talk the talk and walk the walk. They can say what they want and speak at will, but the DS 650 is the KING OF THE HILL.... I had the chance to test ride one at the dealership and it blow me away....!!!!! I love this quad.

TrailMix: At a bare minimum, you will want a new pipe at some point. This will run you $400-$650 with headpipes, cheaper with slip-on only.

What is wrong with your 400EX? They can be highly modified to reach 45 HP.

Have you ridden a DS650 yet? The DS is not a 400EX with a 650 motor! Riding one will answer some of your questions.

Some friends of mine were riding at some dunes a few weeks ago when a brand new ds650 showed up. They decided to drag race in the sand. The race was between 3 banshees the ds and a 400ex. I did not see the race but everyone said that the banshees were in the lead all the way with the ds about half a bike length to a bike length behind and the 400ex about 3 to 4 bike lengths behind. My friends said they weren't to impressed. Then a few hours later the ds and his riding partner who was on a brand new banshee colided hard. No one was hurt but both bikes suffered a lot of broked plastic and bent metal. Just my 2 cents. Mike

I was down to the dunes this weekend and 400s and banshees was keeping up with the ds. its a great bike but you use alot of hp to move the oversized bike. My 400 cost 6000.00 out the door and pipe and i lose banshees except on the hill. I wish the atv manufactuers would have a trial day at the dunes like ski manufactures and snomobiles do. It would make buying easier to decide.

If all you want to do is compare the price to performance, any well maintained USED ATV *FAR* outperforms *ANY* new ATV in that categoy. I could buy *3* good condition USED ATV's for the same money you spent on *ONE* 400ex. Now, how much fun is your 400ex for three people? Not alot. But three USED ATV's sure are fun. My point is, no one is buying a BRAND NEW ATV to save money. So when you say you saved money, why didn't you just buy a USED ATV and save yourself $4000.00?

your answer? Doesn't matter, my point is there is alot more going on here than worrying about the price otherwise you'ed have bought three used ATV's for your $6,000.

Also, how many poor people do you see spending this kinda of money on a toy? I know of lots of people who don't have even $2,000 for a car, much less a USED toy!

I think we're all pretty lucky to be able to buy ANY ATV's. We're the ones with a few thousand extra to toss around.

I ordered a Bomb, but hearing all your complaints about it, Do you really think is a good decision by the Bomb instead of the 400EX,or wait for the Cannondale.
Thanks for your answers

JDSUAREZA, It just depend on what you want, I had a 400ex and I won't go back. My motorcycle buddies said cannondale pulled the same crap on them a couple of years ago and they still have not manufactured a single dirt bike yet!
Good luck, BIGDADDY

I too am considering waiting for the Cannondale which is officially supposed to be available this coming fall. However, today I called the nearest Cannondale dealer and found out that last week their factory rep. told them that it wouldn't be ready until spring of 2001 -at earliest, more likely summer.

Maybe I'll get the 650. I went to the dealer to see one from the second production run. I see that they have a foam air filter now in place of the paper filter. The salesguy quoted $6999 before tax etc.
