Chain Adjustment Problems
#1
On my Baja DS650, the chain keeps coming loose, and I have tightened the Axle housing (ecentric) bolts to the reccomended 21ft/lbs. Now this seems a little loose, as on my old quad, I had to tighten those bolts to 40 ft/lbs. I have the Baja, 2002, and I noticed that the 2002 swingarm is different that the earlier model Ds swingarms. Can somebody with a 2002 please tell me if the new swingarm requires more torque to tighten it? Since I know the owner's manual has a lot of errors in it, and also hasn't been changed for the new 2002 models. How tight should those bolts be, or is that even my problem? I have to tighten it up to 4 times a day on riding trips, and it gets real old, real fast. Any help?

Not to sure if this will be of much help to you or even very smart on my part. But, i have never used a torqe wrench on mine when adjusting the chain after a sprocket change. If I had to guess I would say im at around 40 to 50 lbs. There is no way 21lbs would be what I would go with. I have never had my chain come out of adjustment either.
Just my thoughts.

I've looked at the new swing arm and can say that it will handle more torque then 21 lb-ft. You can go higher but watch the bosses that the bolts go through and tighten it until they start to flex (not bend). My bet is around 45 to 55 lb-ft but 40 will be plenty to keep your adjuster from turning. Having to constantly tinker with a new quad is the pits, I hope this helps.
