Its funny you say that rockey because rwr racing said that everybody that they know that runs alchohol pulls there base gasket to bump the compression up just a little more with no problems. they also recomended to me to have a little smaller head gasket made in thickness to bump up that much more compression. but it is nessesary to check your piston to valve clearance first. depending on what cams you have and piston will tell you how much you can do. I would probably leave as much clearance as possible just incase you overrev or what ever the case maybee. the situation is different on maniac650 or any bigbore motor im sure. sorry for the bad info randy, i guess all that stuff doesnt help you that much.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

I dont know how much it would affect the cam timing or if it would even be more beneficial than detrimental (DSMike would know better). I just know it does change the timing. Thinking about it, since the the cam sprocket's would shift counterclockwise the valves would open later and also close later. Doesn't sound to beneficial to me, but it might be just a nominal difference.

 

i far i know i am the only DS without a base gasket. Ron told me to try it. he wasn't for sure if it would work and not leak oil. he never said anything about anyone else tring it it. and it does change the cam timing or i would not be messing around with it.


i don't think the base gasket would even give you more than .1 in compression. when we put our other motor back it will have the base gasket. we have some oil leaking probablems with it.

I didnt get a chance to install the carbs this weekend becouse my grandad had a heart attack and had to have 4 by-passes so I spent some time with the family. Maybe tomarrow night I will get a chance to install the carbs and give it a test ride.
