Ron Woods offset ignition key

Has anyone tried one of these keys to advance their ignition?
With the right tires and gearing I feel my bike is about as fast as it will go right now. I'm talking uphill sand drags. Would this give me any advantage, I'm willing to run race gas or a mix so it won't detonate.
I see alot of the Honda 400exs using offset keys and some of those bikes with mods are getting pretty fast compared to stock.
Any input would be appreciated, I'm really not ready to tear into my motor yet and I want to get it fast as I can before I change cams or piston.

Thanks for the responce but I'm hoping for a more technical answer and if possible from someone that has tried it. All the old school hotrods I had I adjusted the timing by ear. Advance till they would ping uder full load and back down till they wouldn't.
My DS has never pinged, these are streetbike motors with fuel economy and emissions considerations. I'm sure I could compensate for an extra couple of degrees with better fuel.
