I just got back. Sore am I. Man it was a blast. That thing has insane torque. It took me this trip to realize it. I was going up Patten and I down shifted to second. When I did the torque buckled my new Douglas rim. Tweeked it so bad that my beed blew. I never knew that that was possible. Other than that I didn't really have any probs. These bike will leave a Banshee in the dust up hill from a standing start. You can pull on the Banshee all the way up. My Bomb could even take two people up the wall without ever bogging down, or even slowing down. I have gained a whole new respect for this bike.
Fly high, Fly far.

Were you running douglas blue label rims? I posted in another forum about jumping my 400EX with 10 in. blue labels and 20 in. haulers and they didn't last me 20 minutes, after 3 jumps off a razorback both rims were history. The 8 paddle haulers are fine and was hoping to get either black or red label rims for my DS, after reading of your trip I think I'll spend the extra for the reds.

I had black label rims. I will put some pics of the rim on www.cochisemotorsports.com/ds650/ as soon as I get them developed

Where did you get the black label rims? According to Rocky Mountain ATV, the Red labels are the only thing available and that isn't for another week or two!?!?!
Yea, I went out for the first time on mine this last weekend at the Dust Bowl, Moses Lake dunes in WA state. It was the first time on a quad, I've been riding three wheelers for about 17 years, and I was kinda un-impressed at first. The dunes were all rutted from other tire tracks and it was bouncey and hard to steer due to the wide and very responsive front end. I was about ready to sell it until I got used to riding a quad and found out that once you get up to speed it smoothes out really nice.
I am really impressed now! 60-70mph across rutted sand and smooth as glass! Even sputtering from bad jetting I was able to keep up and start to catch up (before running out of straightaway) to a new stock Banshee that had a rider that was at least 100#'s lighter! That thing is fast!
I don't know about the rest of you guys with the DS out there, but the preload seems a little high on mine and I wiegh 280, I would hate to see some little guy try flying across some whoops, because the first big hit and I would imagine that the rider would be airborne up ahead of his quad only to be run over by said quad! I definately need to experiment with the preload.
I am also still walking around all sore. Man, I should've stretched a little before riding. Why don't we remember about that when we go riding for the first time in the season?
Thanks,

The dealership here got the black labels from Scat Trax. The rims went strait from Douglas to Scat Trax, and they mounted the paddles. I couldn't buy just the rims though. $350.00 for the nine paddle.
As far as the preload, I weigh 170lbs and I haven't had any problems hanging on. Although I let a friend ride it and he hit a jump and flew over the bars and broke his collar bone, BUT THE BOY CAN'T RIDE! Nothing to do with the bike.

Reaper - Well, I guess sometimes being stupid does hurt :-)
Yea, the preload thing wasn't really dangerous at any time, it's just something I noticed that it bounced a little more than it probably should. The rear spring on the two quads we bought in WA are preloaded over two thirds of the way out from max, so I need to back it off some and maybe adjust down some of the rebound.
Thanks for the info.
ScoobyDFW - Yea, that kinda pissed me off that my bike chose that particular, out of the entire weekend, to start sputtering. I made a run out across a long flat dune in fifth, which must have gotten his attention. He came out and asked if he could have a go at it. I said sure, but I was starting to have some sputtering and that I was still breaking it in. I let him be the starting gun and my bike started puking off the line. I didn't get to really gas it till third gear. By then he had about a fifty-foot lead. I caught up to him and passed him, but it was already over. Later, he said he heard my bike puking, but was really surprised at how quick and fast it was regardless.
I don't usually race other people; I am more out for fun and catching the occasional air.

WARNING: With the new sprocket on my bike, four teeth less in the back, I was starting to smell the clutch durring hard rides. I don't really want to find out how much it would cost to replace the clutch. I think that the fact that my paddels wern't allowing any slip didn't help much either.
P.S. okaybyethen, ShawE is in the hospital. I get to visit him today. Just thought that you would like to know.
