I was taking off my stock header and had a real hard time getting the damn nuts off. Some of the studs loosened easier then the nuts. I want to use new nuts for when I install my new pipe. Will Nyloc nuts work? or will the locking part melt? Should I just buy a standard nut and use thread lock?

Most likely Nyloc will melt, look for some of the mechanical type locknuts, the ones that are kinda oval shaped at the top. They should have them at any auto or harware store.

I think the nuts Raptorridrtx is talking about are called Stover nuts. They have a slight oval and taper at the top. They work really well. The nylok nuts will melt on the header for sure.

The best way is to use brass nuts with stainless lock washers, they won't melt and are softer that the studs so they will come off without damage to the stud. I've used them on my sand rail and bikes for ever and never had any problems. Our local True Value and Ace Hardware carry them. I hope this helps...

Nylock nuts will definatly melt!

I use a standard nut and put a small dab of grey silicone on the end of the stud after installing the nut. This makes a solid barrier to keep the nut in place, but it's easy to peel off to remove the nut.

I sometimes use a tiny bit of blue locktite to keep the studs in the head though. Just be sure to use very little and no red or you may damage the head if you ever have to remove the studs.
