to change the springs you gotta remove the head, so have a head gasket too, and if you know of a good deal on a piston used then get it and some new rings and install it while you're at it- it'll potentially save you another head gasket down the road.
the springs can be gotten directly from Web, cheaper than RW. Web and RW can get you shims, around $5 each, but a local bike dealer may stock the right sizes so its worth checking.

also, if you have shims that are too thick and need thinner, you just have a local machine shop grind them on a magnetic base surface grinder. they cna make them whatever thickness you need, for like $10, and no waiting on shipping. have them grind a bit from both sides, rather than all from one side.

whether you need to grind the stems will depend on the base circle diameter of the new cams compared to the old. If your current valve lash is correct, and the new cams have a base circle exactly the same as the cams removed, then the same shims you have in now will be reused. If the new cams have a larger base circle, thinner shims will be needed, and if the base circle is smaller then larger shims will be needed. I've have found that aftermarket cams do not stick to tight tolerances here. Web and RW tolerance on base circle has a range of .010". Base circle diameter is the diameter of the circle that the lobe is on, not counting the lobe height.
Web will tell you that the spring kit will come with the right shims, but they are clueless in reality to what shim you really need, because they have no way of knowing what everbody's cams measure. no way can every bike out there use the same shims, hence the variety available.
