To paint the engine I use regular engine enamel (spray paint) that you would paint an engine block with. The paint is a high temp. and will not flake off. Spray it in the cap until you get enough to work with.
Use acetone, or another solvent that won't leave a residue, to the clean the area first.
Go to a model/hobby shop and buy a good quality (fine point) paint brush.
Get some thinner while your at it.
One trick is to tilt the DS over on it's right side. It's much easier to flow the paint into the indented BOMBARDIER that way. No need to lay it all the way on it's side. Just use a block (2x4) or something to support the quad while it's leaned over.
Have some Q-tips handy (dip in clean solvent) to remove mistakes.
I had orginally painted the same area w/ yellow and it was next to impossible to remove it. I ended up painting over it w/ the red.
Take your time, use good lighting and you should have no problem.

Adding a plastic adhesion promoter and flex agent to the paint is to prevent this. The plastic currently bends without cracking/chipping the paint however, if I flip the quad in the rocks or drive it into a tree I don't think the paint will survive where it hits.
Time will tell if problems arise through normal use but I don't think they will.
I have not driven it through the brush or trees yet so can't tell if that will cause a problem. it seems pretty tough though.
