I just put in my new (to me) CDI box. I can't believe how good it feels not to bump the rev limiter. The bottom end feels snappier too. The best part is that I bought it through E-bay for around $40. I was checking out the BMW F650s and other names for them and found it under Funduro. It was in England and with shipping and purchasing foreign currency the total was almost $80.
Anyone know the rev limit on this box? It's alot higher than the stock DS if ithas one at all.

That was a great idea to look under f650. Sounds like you got quite a deal. Is that an aftermarket or is it a BMW stock part? The DS is almost useless with a revbox, congrats.

I wonder if it advances the timing like the RW or Alba CDI

I would try to locate some motorcycle wreckers and look for a parted out BMW f650. I have no idea what a dealer would want for a CDI. My object was to save money. I don't know the year. I read an article that talked about running a F650 up to 8500 rpms without hitting a rev limiter so I went ahead and bid on mine. It worked out fine, all I had to do was move one pin out of five, four wires were the same in color and position. Nippondenso 071000-0590 is all the info I have.
Mudstud, my understanding is that the stock CDI retards the ignition as it nears the rev limiter. This one may too but the rev limit is much higher or non existant.
Bombrider, I watched a documentary on the Dead Sea, there was a guy riding around on a quad with a roll bar on it, your bike has a roll bar doesn't it? Is it similar?

I called Ronwood's today and the box you bought for the F650 is the SAME box that Alba sells. They buy them direct from BMW. It still retards the engine but its reved at 9,000 RPMs. They said that their box they sell is NOT modified by them, they get the CDI from ROTAX direct. The box does NOT retard the ignition at 6500 like the stock. It keep it at I think he sait 29 degrees what ever that means. but thats the poop. So YES you got a good box. So unles you mod the CRAP out of your DS that f650 works great..

ok i just found out today from my local parts dealer. i happend to ask about it when picking up my sand tires. his eyes lit up about the whole BMW DS engine deal cause his dad is into BMW motorcycles bigtyme. he called his buddy at the Gardena bmw store and asked him about the cdi. his buddy said they do work and he sells them for $350. then he says he just sold 12 of them last week. he thinks someone out there is just repacking them once they get them from him. he also said that bmw just went to efi this yr and not to get that cdi but i will have to get back on what yr ranges.
