Does a new balljoint come with a new lower A-arm or do I have to use the old one? How do they come off? Do I need a special tool or is this something that the dealer should do? Thanks. For anybody wondering, a new lower A-arm for a BAJA is $128.00. Thanks.

This is the best tool to get the ball joints remove from the spindle ATV Ball Joint Separator

I looked at the service manual and I looked at the tools for driving out ball joints. Can I just use some pipe that is the same diameter? Also, can the old joint still be reused after driving it out of the old A-arm?

I've replaced one upper and one lower a-arm off my '00 and was able to reuse the ball joints in both cases. Remove the clips, put the arm in a vise, and drive or press the ball joint out. A little heat seemed to help a lot. If you are careful you should have no problem reusing the old ball joints. make sure the clips are on right when re-installing. The new arms (at least for '00's) don't come with the ball joints, and I was quoted something like $80 for new ones. You should be able to get the lower arm for less, I think I paid around $90 for the older style.

My experience was that the arms come off pretty easily. I didn't have any problems seperating the ball joint from the spindle and didn't use any special tools.
