Default Has anyone put in a 90/110W Halogen bulb?

Has anyone tried replacing the 55/60W halogen headlight bulb with a 90/100W H-4 halogen?

Will it melt the housing? or the wiring?

Thanks.

They also make a 55/100 H-4. I got mine from JC whitney, got the xenon bulb, has a blueish tint to it. I have yet to go on a night ride with it so I can't coment on how the wirring will hold up. I like the idea of having a 55w low beam for when just putting around and the stator isn't pumping out max wattage. Also when you are just putting around you don't have the cooling from passing air to cool off the lens.

I've been using a 55/100 for over a year now, 100W is fine in the housing. I use the 55/100 instead of the one you mentioned so the 55w low beam can be ran through campgrounds without blinding everybody, and I got the blue xenon version so the 100 high beam doesn't glare oncoming traffic too much in the dunes.

I also bought a 55/100w H-4 though mine is just white, no blue tint. Another forum user (I don't recall who) had replaced the stock bulb with a 55/100w H4 with the blueish tint and in addition to being able to see better, he also got a lot of compliments on how good it looked. It sounded like he had been running it that way for some time, though I don't know the true to the matter. Be sure to save your old bulb, and do not touch either bulb with your fingers at all! The oils from your fingers will cause a bulb that hot to break very quickly.
