Default anyone pulling there toy box with a f250 v-10

I can't pull my toy box with the expedition anymore. I get about 3 miles per gallon and every trip is costing me 150+ bones. I was looking at getting a diesel but damn they are expensive. Hard to find one under 33k. Anyway I wanted to know what kinda gas mileage you guys were getting with the v10s. I figure if I could get 7-10 I would be happy.

My father is pulling a 25 foot fifth wheel trailer with his 2001 F250 v10 and I believe he gets right in the range of fuel economy you were talking about. He says it has plenty of power to pull the trailer and it goes up the hills rather well with the smaller sized trailer on the back. I hear the Diesels are getting just under 20mpg, (probably unloaded) which depending on how often you tow could save cash over time. The extra $4500 or so is a lot of money though. I heard on one of the forums that Ford is coming out with a new smaller, more powerful quieter diesel soon, though that would be a relatively unproven engine whereas the current diesel is known good as well as the v10.

I Pull with a F-350......crew cab,8'bed.......351 auto....I get between 7.5 and 9 with a trl. loaded with 3 wheelers......it all depends on the speed...65 in overdrive is best....it kills to go that slow....70-75 and the milage drops like a rock

I think I can answer your questions(see my signature). My V-10 F250 has the 4.30LS axle. Towing my 21' Tahoe toyhauler (approx 8K lbs fully loaded), I usually get 7-9 mpg. The truck will pull in overdrive most of the time, however throw in a head wind (such as coming back thru Palm Springs) and you will have another story. The last time I towed through there, my trailer only weighed around 6500 lbs (no quads or water). There was a REALLY strong head wind and the best I could do was 45mph with the pedal mashed in 2nd gear coming up the grades. The V-10 is different from the big blocks of old as it makes it's best power in a higher RPM range. I wanted the diesel when I bought my truck, but like you, they were out of my price range. Overall I am happy with the truck, however, do not expect it to ride or handle anything like your Expy. I went from an F150 (5.4L.) to the F250, and trust me, the 250 is all truck(good and bad).

I pull a 26ft toy box (about 9000 lbs loaded) with my V10 and it is lifted and has 35's on it. My gas milage towing is about 7 - 8 and that is with the 3.73 gears. Empty I get about 10 or 11 MPG. The V10 is a real good engine and it loves to rev I can pull hills with mine at 4+ grand all day long.

Well i have the diesel ford but here is some input... Yes, up front you do pay extra when you go to sell it... BUT.... look at the trucks with 100k-200k on them for sale. You get that extra money back out when you go to sell it. And to get a lot better mileage and more dependability its worth it. just my .02

I have a f250 with V10 with a banks exhaust and super chip i get about 7-8 while pulling and about 10-15 while empty. The diesel you could probably get like 10-15 while pulling if you do lots of pulling and traveling the powerstroke is the way to go

Just suck it up and buy the diesel! It is so much worth ther extra money you spend. Stay away from the older Powerstroke Fords. The new powerstrokes may be ok with that newly designed motor, we will see how they turn out. But if yo want a good reliable kick but Truck go with the new Dodge! It is quieter and has more power than the Ford and the Chevy. They are easier and cheaper to beef up and they get better fuel mileage than both. Plus you are getting a proven Cummins engine that will last you 500K miles! Before a rebuild is neccesary. My truck gets about 11mpg towing 11,000 lbs and about 15 to 16 empty. I used to get 15 mpg towing and about 19 empty before I put that front end leveling kit on it. I do recomend however to get the 4.10 ratio. I also recommend going with the 6-speed manual, but if yo just can't stand to drive a stick wait until February for the new Transmission Dodge is suppose to be putting in there trucks, I hear rumor it is going to be the Allison but I am not sure. the Dodges are also cheaper to buy than those overpriced Fords and Chevy's. I can get a Ford truck thru the X-Plan here since I am in the Movie business, a fully loaded all bells and whistles Ford is about 44 to 45,000.00 dollars I can get it for $37,500.00. You can get a fully tricked out Dodge I beleive at a Dealership back in mIssouri from what I understand for aboout $35,000.00. See you spend a whole hell of a lot less money and get a better truck in the process. I am not biased like all of you are thinking right now, I like the Ford and the Chevy equally as much as the Dodge But I was a General Motors Mechanic for 10yrs before I got into the Biz and I beleive after owning all of these trucks the Dodge is the best bang for the buck. My 2 cents. Choose wisely it is a lot of money.

I went out to avondale dodge the new store and tested the {NEW DODGE) i was under powerd and was as noisey as my power stroke i told the head sales man if he could beat me in a short sprint i would buy a new one that day and oreder 3 more for the co GUESS WHAT WERE GETTING FORDS. and my truck gets 7 miles per when towing and about 15-17 unloaded . there is no comparison to the ford but you dont have to belive me just because i own all three diesiels and yet i drive the the ford!but honestly you should be able to get a hell of a deal on the 2002 diesiel and any diesiel beats a gas.[end of a series model] good luck!
