Sounds like some of you have some pretty dang sweet systems. I built them professionaly since i was 14. Love that stuff but I cant even afford my DS yet alone a bunch of car audio. The guy that has all Stillwater Desighns knows what it is all about.....KICKER rules. Is your Solo the square or the round?

This is what I do for a living. I've owned my own high performance car audio shop for over 10 years and have been into it for over 18 years. Yeah, I've blown up some stuff when I was only 15 installing in my first car. If you guys have any questions on car audio, pm anytime.

Itsfast- You claimed 142 db with one woofer and claimed 155 with two. That isn't possible. You can only gain +3 db when you double your drivers{woofers}. So if you pushed 120db with say 2 woofers, 4 woofers would give you a +3db gain= 123db. This also rings true when you double power. If you double your power you will also gain+3db.

Well lets see here, I am not trying to start anything, but you if anyone should know of all the factors that affect the quality and loudness of your subwoofers or soundsystems. So let me clarify with you and see if it clears things up for you. When I was running 1 woofer I was running it at 4 ohms so that i would not wear it out to much before I received the other which was to arrive at the end of the week, well I threw together a small SEALED box (MDF) , just inside of the specs for this driver. When I recieved the other driver I then took the time to get the job done right and had a nice fiberglass PORTED box built by the local shop. Then the current running to the amp was upped, a aftermarket alternator was installed and the amp was then ran at .5 ohm pushing alittle over 2000 rms a driver

You must have dvc 2 ohm drivers to get down to a .5 ohm load. The ported enclosure also adds +3db so with your extra woofer that's +6db. Then when you lowered your impedience, the amp doubles it's output; I know you said .5 ohms "load" on the amp, but the high end amp manufactures that can play down to half an ohm will produce the same power at 2 ohm. Increasing the alternator lowers the vehicle's hp but can help your car's charging system run your high current amp. Oh, back to the 2 ohm power rating: let's say 250 at 4ohms , then it would be 500 watts at 2 ohms, you then think it keeps doubling{only on paper} but the high performance amps are the only ones that can play 2 ohm mono and lower. they can keep playing down to .5 ohm but the amp is designed to be stable at that load only at the 2 ohm power output.
250 @4 ohm
500 @2ohm
500 @1ohm
500 @.5ohm
The amp will get twice as hot, twice as fast when lowering the impedience. IF it kept doubling the watts as the ohms go down, the heat sink would have to grow to dissapate the extra heat generated by the extra power the amp would try to make. That's not even getting into the extra current draw this thing would pull on your vehicle's charging system if the amp kept doubling it's output when the impedience was halved. HEAT KILLS- THE AMP WOULD NUKE.

No majic, just physics!

What are you running your highs with?

Well with that you may have been able to gain that much, but still its not easy to do.

Right On Organdonor, I remember a while back when you wrote asking about stereos and I wrote back and never heard from ya, I always wondered what you ended up doing.

The last system i did was in my brothers 97 F150 Std cab. We put 4 JL 12's to a Kicker 100ss and loaded her down. The box is a bed box in a ported compound loaded enclosure. In the port we acheived 164.5 db at a USAC sanctiond event. On the glass the loudest we have acheived is 152.7, also at a USAC event. Last year we were envited to attend the world finals(101 to 250[I think] watt truck class) but could not attend due to my brother being laid off and no $. We wouldnt have done worth a crap anyways, lucky to be in a top 10 finish. We are running a MB Quart 6.5 and tweet combo up front with a MBquart 5.25 set in the rear for fill off of a Butler tube amp. For controls we are using a Audio Control4.1(I think thats the model) paramatric EQ and a Pioneer Premeir CD unit. When we first originally desighned the system and the box was already in construction, we had planned to use 4 Solo 12's (square) and two Kicker 100ss amps, but do to budget we had to scale back. I wish to this day we could have. That would have ripped A$$!!! I am extremely happy with the turn out and the other thing I really like, with a lil bit of tweeking, I can tune it to sound unbeleivable. I myself drownded my feet in the world of IASCA so I love an awesome SQ system, even though I hate the sound of a flat line. This system is able to have a depth and eveness that I didnt think possible out of truck. Goes to show what spending 21 hours and 8 days to properly alighn speakers can do. We have never lost in a Sound Quality class when there was one to enter. The worst part of doing systems is that i no longer can pas a hearing exam and have tonal defness. I have a very hard time hearing some female voices and even harder time if there is alot of background noise. No that isnt a joke!!!! So I always say, if your maxing out your system, wear earpluggs, It make look stupid but what is worse, wearing them then for a few minutes or being 27 and needing hearing aids?????
