A venue change is cool but seriously - DS days is on Labor day. The weather should be great everywhere but Glamis and Dumont so our choices of venue are wide open. Personally I like the idea of St. A's. Too bad its about 1,000,000 miles away.

Thanks for the info, it looks to be just under 1000 miles and 15+ hours away from Los Angeles, CA.

Yahoo Maps says 780 miles and 12 hours from Sacramento.
In case others are looking to come from up North, it is 13 hours and 840 miles from Eugene, OR
240 miles and 3 hours 45 minutes from Salt Lake City
650 and 10 hours from Las Vegas
16 hours and 1050 miles from Pheonix
About 24 hours from Texas

I like the idea of Labor day weekend but yikes, that is far.

Sand Mt., NV has the following results:
LA, CA- 575 miles and 9 hours
Sacramento - 4 hours
Eugene - 530 and 8 hours
Salt Lake - 480 and 7:15
Las Vegas 380 miles 9:15
Phoenix - 950 and 14:30
34 hours from Texas

I think I am with JSsDS. That is a bit far for a weekend. Sand Mt. is tough to beat. . . I think 8 hours is reasonable and looks like most of us are about that. I want to go to St. Anthony's but that will probably be more like a family trip where Sand Mt. is more of a guys trip (except for some of the really cool wives - did I get any brown stuff on my nose?)

DuneMe,

I agree, it is pretty far. I think if I went to St. Anthony's, I'd have to be carpooling. I don't feel like driving for fifteen hours anymore. (I've been there, done that - funny thing was I only went a few miles all at about 5 - 15 mph!) I personally like the idea of Little Sahara, UT since for me it is the same distance as Sand Mountain, NV (about 10 hours) and is rumored to be bigger. The nearest city as I was told in a previous post was Delta, UT which is what I used to estimate travel time previously. It's good we're talking about this early, we'll need to get this event planned out better than last time. for more info check the post:

Last year's DS Days 2002 location discussion

Oh yeah, and we need a heck of a lot more than double the DSs there, we had seventeen last year, we should aim for at least fifty. To do that, we'll need to have the whole deal planned well in advance.

When you guy's finally stop your sniveling and wipe the tears from your eye's, then maybe when you finally see ST. A's you will understand why you drove that far, to ride there. I gurantee you will forget all about how long that drive there was! St. Anthony's has by far the BEST overall riding conditions in the Western United States. No DUST!, No SAND BLINDNESS!, Beautiful Sugary Sand! And the biggest bowls I have ever seen!!! The awesome part about St. Anthony's is you can haul A!@$ and not worry about killing yourself by smaking a hidden burm or falling off a drop off! You have tons of time to compensate for terrain conditions. Believe me it is well worth it. I just think that Labor Day is not a good idea for St. A's because it is a little far for most, but it also sucks because most of us have to work in SEPTEMBER! June, July, August are better months for it because people have summer Vacation time and can negotiate there way around spending a week there. Sand Mtn. is ok, but it really lacks in good quality fun. And my question is why have DS Days on a major Holiday weekend? Is it because it is a 3 day weekend? Because I tell you a holiday weekend like Labor Day is just to Damn busy! I still say we shoot for sometime in mid to late June at St. A's.

i like the idea of a touring ds day, having them in different location each year. it will let people see some different sand besides there home town sand, like for me its little sahara OK, and if i have the chance to make it i would like to travel to different locals and check it out with a large network of guys we have here in the forum it would make for a enjoyable for a weekend or even a 4 or 5 day outting.
