Default Road the new 400 today

I had the chance to ride the IRS 400 Outlander today and I am impressed very quick and responsive. It handles very well for an IRS the trailing arm allows for the tires to go up and down without changing the toe in or toe out. Very smooth riding quad it doesn't want to topple over in a turn like some IRS quads. It is sure footed in tight turns in the woods and with the low weight centre of gravity it is easy to handle at excelerated speeds. The only thing I didn't like was the brake set up on the handle bars as it operates all four wheels. It also puts more pressure on the front brakes which is okay on backing down hills but creates unsure dipsy doodling when operated on tight trails. Overall this is a winner in my opinion if you get a chance to give the quad a test run you will be impressed.

It was 7300 Canadian the turning radius is tight here is some stats.

4stroke single cylinder 400cc
bore & stroke 91X62mm
torque @ rpm 32nm @ 5500 rpm
electric start with recoil
lubrcation wet sump
carb mikuni bsr33
electrical output 400W range
brakes disc front and back
liquid cooled
2wd 4 wd
height 45in
length 86in
width 46in
wheel base 49in
wheel track front 38in
wheel track back 36in
turning radius 72in
fuel tank 4.2 US gal. / 16L
front tires 25X8X12in
rear tires 25x11x12
front wheels 12in dia. x 6in. wide
rear wheels 12in dia. x 7.5in wide
front suspension travel 7.o1in
rear suspension travel 8in
ground clearance
front & under engine 9.3in
rear 9.3in
weight 585lbs
towing capacity 1100lbs
tongue capacity 30lbs

This is the lightest IRS quad out there with plenty of zip, I see where they say it will run with a Polaris 500 Sportsman and about 200lbs lighter.

thats a great price, I checked out the Outlander last week here in Calgary and was quoted $8200.00

It's a great looking machine, I can hardly wait for the XT version (IMO it will look better with some beefier bumpers). The inboard breakes are the best innovation on the Outlander - really something to behold.

Cheers,

I was pretty much raised in Calgary know it well moved north some time ago still miss seeing the mountains on the horizon. Where do you ride mostly I make a trip to Medicine Lake at least once a year for a Munchkin Run that is close to Rockymountain House. Maybe we can get in touch sometime do some riding. We are very lucky haveing millions of square acres to ride in Alberta keep in touch I am in Calgary as my kids live there maybe one day we can connect.

Yes, we should join up for a ride in the future. I'll let you know when we are heading up north, perhaps we'll meet up somewhere in the middle Also, if you are ever down here, let me know.

Cheers,

Hey Alltoys,

Where do I need to drive to in Alberta to pick one up for $7300? I'm in Calgary and am seriously considering this quad.

Cheers,

The name of the dealer is Gibbons Motor Toys in of course Gibbons Alberta. Is north and east of Edmonton by a half hour drive. They have one for demoing right now I am going again this saturday to test drive it again but with a new tire that has lugs like an Outlaw with aluminum rims and about half the weight. Here is the web site talk to Tim Panasiuk. They wont be getting any in to sell untill January.

All Toys,
How was the engine braking? Does it hold you back going down hills? Is the steering light when in 4wd? I have ridden the AC400I and the sportsman 400. So far the lightest steering has been on the AC. I like the features of the OUtlander and have been considering this machine as my next purcahse. Any more feed back on how good the machine is, is really appreciated.

Thanks,

The bike handles excellent in 4wd the best I have so far. The AC is really good for steering but this is better I can run with one hand on the bars going from mud to hard pack. Most bikes soon as you hit the transition from soft to hard you get that twist on the handle bars and you have to compensate that's the nature of limited slip differential. Not so with the Outlander there is hardly any bump steer at least not noticeable I ran with one hand most of the time just to see how it handled and there is nothing like it out there.
