Performance Question
#1
This weekend we went to Ocotillo Wells I thought my yellow 2000 was running great until I had the chance to do some compareing. Others in the group picked up two new Bombs a 03 BaJa and a 03 standard Ds. I rode the Baja and then mine the standard and then mine I found out I liked my +2 steering stem the other bikes were cramped and I had to fight the bike more. What I didn't like was they both had more response and climbed better than mine. We did Blow Sand I start to bogg in third gear on mine thiers third gear no problem. Thier bikes are completely stock, mine has a trinity pipe but other wise stock. Have they done some thing to the new Bombs or is mine just hosed. I've been having problems with back firing through the carb. Did the 2 1\2 to 2 3\4 air\fuel mix and it didn't change a thing
can timimg change the performance that dramatic or can other things be happening. The hotter it gets the more it backfires. The plugs show dark and dry that means rich but the back fireing through the carb says lean. Any sugestions out there. Alba did the tune up about 50 hrs ago and they said the shimmed the valves didn't change the problem.

Have you personally taken the carburetor apart, cleaned it out and checked the jet yourself? MY 2001 started acting up, then I pulled the carburetor off, cleaned the heck out of it (installed the dynojet kit at this point as well) and oh what a difference the next time I took it out. From what I've heard, people say backfiring is usually due to jetting, one direction or another. I think you might try cleaning the carb. then run it. If that doesn't make any difference start changing your jetting one direction or the other to see what happens. Also, after I installed my Tach. a couple of the wires had a loose connection and caused a misfire, which to me sounded just like backfiring. Luckily my riding buddy is a mechanic and knew the difference. You might check all the wires that go to the ignition and coils etc; essentially all of the wires in the pain in the butt area to get to under the plastic dashboard where the tach would mount.

I'm running holeshots XCT 22x11x10 rear 23x7x10 fronts. I tried the carb cleaner on the intake and boot no change in rpms.

Who in the area can understand the Bomb best it's hard to find some one that really knows the bike.
Alba isn't even a choice for me they did me bad once and once is enough. If I can't figure this thing out I'm going to have to bring a ringer in.
