Default Barnett Clutck for a DS

My clutch is starting to slip and I was about to order a Barnett clutch when a friend of mine told me that the Barnett clutch engages well, however it dose not disengage well. He said for get trying to find neutral while the quad is running and the clutch is harsh when taking off.

He also said that the stock clutch is a quality clutch and I should get firmer clutch springs and add another steel plate to the pack. This is supposed to be a better clutch that Barnett.

Has any one installed a Barnett clutch? How do you like it?

Has any one installed heavier springs?
Has any one installed springs and another steel plate to the pack?

Any feed back would be appreciated.

I appreciate your feedback. I am going to try using a new stock clutch with new springs and synthetic oil as you recommended.

My barnett cluch went out after 3 rides. I think the springs in the kit where week though. Either way when I removed it, the oil had a sandy grit to it. Only reason I even checked the oil was because I was told by one of the Raptor guys of the grit in the oil. I went back to the OEM clutch with the stock number of steel plates and intalled a set of RWR clutch springs. Been on many, many rides since. Wroks great
Others run the Barnetts with no problems though. I sure do wish it would have worked out though. When I first installed them you could tell a big diff between the clutches. Power shifting hit so much harder with the barnetts.

I run the pami springs with stock clutch, have run this for about a year now with many rides and no problems (at least not with the clutch). I had the actuator rod break a tooth off, but I dont think it had anything to do with the clutch.

Anyway, I run the HP4 oil and no problems.

I don't know about that adding another disk to the pack - the shop manual specifies a thickness for the entire package, and this dimension should be adhered to in my opinion. If an additional disk would even fit in the basket, its function would only be to force the springs to compress a little more for more pressure on the pressure plate, which is exactly what after market heavier springs are for.

I would stick with the factory amount of disks, replace all the fibers with OEM, and install heavier springs. Don't replace the fibers without also replacing springs or they will just fail prematurely again. Also, keep in mind the very first fiber is different than the others, even though they look the same the part number is different, so keep them sorted and take note the way this first fiber sits in the basket notches as apposed to the rest as well. This seperate set of notches is the wear limiter for the package.

I have to wonder about this HP4 oil. My friend was always complaining about his clutch slipping ( I thought he was imagining it) He was running HP4. He finally went to a barnett clutch kit with no further problems. He talked me into trying HP4 and my clutch started slipping very noticably first time out. I'm all for using quality oil but think that the stock clutch is to lightly sprung for whatever has been added to this oil.
I bought heavy springs from TVI but haven't installed them yet, still waiting on my new water pump impeller shaft.
