Default Barnett springs caused major damage

RaptorRRC took my Raptor apart the other night - sure enough the second gear dogs were broke off, but the biggest damage was caused by the Barnett springs. A year and a half ago, I had a Trinity 686 motor and in that package was a set of Barnett springs for a WR400 dirt bike. At the time, I didn't install them. Six months ago before we went to Nebraska, I installed new factory clutches and metals. I reached into the tool box and grabbed those Barnett springs that Trinity had sent. When I went to Nebraska, I posted that I had some weird clutch problems. It was either all or nothing half the time, and then sometimes it worked right. I did some adjustments and thought it was okay. Before we all headed to Glamis, we were going to install a GYRT clutch. Time ran short and we didn't do it, so we were going to do it after we got there, but then the transmission crapped out and we didn't have to. So after Bob tore it apart, there were stress fractures in the clutch basket and grooves where the springs went in the other part of the clutch. Maybe RaptorRRC can post some pics of the damage. If you have these Barnett springs in your Raptor, I would pull them out, as the $16 that Trinity charged me for them is nothing compared to the damage that I am going to have to replace.

That suks! I have always been a fan of factory stock clutches, they wear out a little sooner but they wont put the shock loads to your transmission that the high pressure units do.

Mark, I am not trying to rub it in, but didn't I say those springs were junk when you were complaining about your clutch after returning from nebraska?

Let me look around and see if I can find the number for Boker Manufacturing. The made the springs for my 250x after I tossed the Barnetts.

Were the WR springs too short maybe? How many springs does the Raptor have? How about trying YZ490 springs? I run those in my banshees. I have an extra set if you are interested I can send them and you can see if they will work.

I just spent 699 on all the parts and that included the 02 swap over. I am glad my dealer likes me and gives a wail of a discount on my personal stuff.
