Default DS650 hard to start?

I still remember the day when an airman took a blow torch to a JP-4 under ground fuel cap. It was two feet above ground and -40. He used the torch the thaw out the cap so he could fill the tank. Because it was so cold all the fumes were way down in the tank. At least that what he told me after I got off the ground.

Default DS650 hard to start?

I would not say mine is hard to start, but it takes a bit more then the raptor to get started. I don t know why, but it will have to crank over a few times before starting. This time of year it gets pretty cold, down below zero at night, and my DS sits sometimes for a month or longer, but usually after a few cranks it starts up.

No fan probs, I think they fixed that with the rubber mounts.

Hard to start? First start of the day (it's not really cold in Phoenix) the DS650 will not start. I either have to crank it until the engine actually warms up from the attempts (it fires but won't run), or I pull start it.

I'm going to have a look at the valves this weekend.

i live in the upper michigan and this time of the year its cold, my ds sitting outside for days in cold cold weather coverd in snow and for me it starts right up, all i gotta do is give it full choke and push da button dont gotta give it gas or anything. i use some motorcycle oil called trophy. the only problem i had is the ignition froze up so i put oil in there and now its good

When I went to test drive a ds650 last saturday, it was 30 degrees fahrenheit. I asked to drive it and the dealer said "you can if you'll act like a human" lol . Anyways, it took a bit to get it started. Didn't take long after he found the choke

one trick i found that works every time, when cold enough for you to think of pull starting or canking for a while. pull the air horn off @ the carb mouth, hold you'r hand over the carb mouth while cranking and it will start every time, needs more fuel than the mixture enrichener can provide.

JeffRoe,

You have the only real solution for a cold weather start. I live 40 minutes east of ottawa, Canada and today the temperature outside is said to real a high if -15 degress Celsius(5 Degrees Fahrenheit) with an overnight low last night of -23 celcuis without the wind chill. I have had nothing but hard aches trying to start my Baja at cold temperatures and finially came up with the manual choke idea that you spoke of.
