Destroyed Axle

While taking apart my rear axle assemble to replace the blown bearing I noticed more damage was done then I thought. The axle has parts of the bearings seized on and deep groves where the axle was riding on the bearing carrier when the bearings gave way. As for replacement parts I am looking at the RAD tapered bearing housing instead of going with he OEM part. As far as an axle goes what are my options? Anyone no the price of the OEM axel? I can get a Durablue Eliminator Standard Axle for $289. I am not looking for anything wider then stock. Strength in more important to me then weight savings. Will my stock parts work with the durablue axle (wheel hubs, brake hub, and sprocket hub)? Will the RAD housing work with the durablue axle? Any recommendations would be great. A $30 bearing quickly became $600+ repair

Same thing happened to me! I had one bearing race stuck to to stock axle and scored it as well. I am going to get the rad mfg. bearing carrier. Here are pics of my toasted bearing carrier: http://home.swbell.net/tharthun/home...ingcarrier.htm BTW, my bearings were dry as dirt and my axle nut was never loose!
FYI, just in case this happens to you and you need to order a new axle carrier(or chain tightener as bombarider calls it) for a 01 DS-650, there is a new part #705-500-317 $129.97 and o-ring 243-300-088 $.87
More info! BTW Bombardier also changed the oem part # for the axle. Old axle part# 705-500-05 and it's now 705-500-327 Price for stock OEM axle is $349.62 ouch! I wonder why they changed the axle part # and the bearing carrier(chain tightner) part# hmmmm??? could it be a design flaw? Man this really ticks me off!

Well I got the seized bearing off the axle, I just can't get the sprocket hub off. I was able to remove the c-clip that holds the sprocket hub. From what i understand there is some sleeve that is pressed into the hub. I can get the hub to move about an 1/8 inch either direction on the splines, but can get it to move any farther. Any tips into getting the hub off? Im not even sure the hub is salvageable. I believe part of the hub sticks into the bearing carrier and the bearing carrier dust seal rubs against it, well that part is all groved too. Anyone know of any dealers to order OEM parts from, phone or web?
If anyone has an axle or sprocket hub they would part with email me at scott@sandaholic.com
