I was thinking the same thing about the oil tank recently. Maybe even one with tube through it so air could pass through to cool (like the ones I have seen for 400EX's.)

American Star - A-Arms
TBR - A-Arms
Alba - I think they make A-arms too - or someone makes them for them.

No oil tanks for the DS that I know of. It was tried a few years ago with bad results. I think the they placed it in the same area as the stock air cleaner. The engine was starved for oil and burned up. I think it could work but you will need to remove the stock head light and mount the oil tank there.

Hey DS people,

This last Saturday I saw a DS with an aluminum oil tank. It was placed where the air box was. It was extra capicity and obviously functional. The owner said he shaved 104lbs from the DS. He replace the "A" arms, axel and swing arm, removed the fan and heel guards.

The guy was about 140-150 lbs and the engine was stock, completly stock except the air cleaner. He was not only winning, he was spanking stage 1 DS's, piped/carbed Shees, piped/carbed Rapters and 440 EX's by 10+ bike lengths on Old's hill. It was very fast! It would weelie up Old's easily.

Just thought you would like to know.

Did it look like he had a pump on there of some sort? I heard of a couple companies trying to run an oil tank where the air box was and that it starved the engine of oil, making for a very expensive experiment. 104 lbs, I suppose it could be done however it might cost a tad much for my budget.

I wish i knew more about a lightweight oil tank under the seat. That sounds like a great mod. especially on a lighter bike.

if he shaved 104 lbs. off a DS then there are quite a few companies and magazines after him and he is quite talented
a project DS in ATV Sport was nowhere near that after going with the lightest rims, sand tires, swingarm, a-arms, shocks, drilling holes all over frame, changing to 520 chain and sprockets, etc.
he needs to join the ATVC and share!

I would be happy with shaving 52lbs off the bike and another 52 off of me

I shave about 275 off my DS everytime I go duning......Well it seems to end up back on the quad after dusting the sand off.
