Default Question about bore size options...

I'm ready to order a larger bore piston (probably from Sam Coe) and I see he offers a 2mm and 3mm oversize. I plan to have US Chrome bore & replate my cylinder but my question is this: Is there anything to be leary of or concerned about, I think I remember reading something about piston skirt clearance issues or something. Sam Coe's website also says that I will need different valve springs with this piston, why? I plan to install a set of Web cams without the shim under bucket conversion because I'm not going with a radical grind, just the heavier springs. I simply need to know what to look out for in advance if anything. Many thanks in advance!

Default Question about bore size options...

Are you looking to go with the full Same Coe kit? (Stroke too?)

After being at 4 Sroke Wars and looking at what MajorEcho had to do to take care of clearance issues with the piston and the head, I would not purchase the Sam Coe kit (bore and stroke.) Major is an extremely knowledgeable and detail oriented person. I don't like the idea of putting clay in my motor to check for clearance issues. I think this should be done by the guys putting the kits together.

As for a 680 kit. That could be done for your DS without too much difficulty. Sounds like you have someone that could bore your cylinder out to 102mm. Team Pami offers a 102mm piston (with rings) in both 11:1 compression and 12:1 compression (Gary, TVI or Team Pami direct can help you with it.) You will also need a gasket (head and base) for the kit (again Team Pami has it.) The other thing I would suggest is the heavy duty stud bolts and nuts (Pami or TVI.)

As for the valve springs, I run the shim under bucket with mild cams. I think Marky had a set of shims shatter on him (shim over bucket) and cause some damage. It has been a while, could have been someone else.

Default Question about bore size options...

I just got off the phone with Gary at TVI & I feel it would be in my best interest to go through him.. He took over an hour with me to determine my exact needs & this guy REALLY knows DS's. I'll be getting some funds together & getting back with him shortly. If anyone else out there is looking at some motorwork, definitely give Gary a call before you make your decision!

I have to say that I really enjoyed talking with Gary while at FSW. He is a nice guy, and I would have no trouble doing business with him. Unfortunately my banshee is getting all of the money that my wife leaves me lately.

Default Question about bore size options...

i do have to say gary has a passion for the ds and shares what he knows, and it seems like he works hard to bring new things to the market for the ds, i know he came through for me on some clutch springs when pami wasn't easy to get. and when i went carb mount he made sure i got the two other little filters that i would need (i was clueless and thought he had sent some nonsence until i took the stuff apart and realized oh i will need those. when i called to get a head gasket, they called him at fsw to find out what i needed, and he called back , i thought that was some service. and he is always willing to chat and give advice.
