Shock settings
#1
What setting is your stock rear shock at? I have tried every possible combination and I can't get the rear shock to handle the whoooops. I have 3 1/2" sag at 300psi nitrogen charge and the compression is 10 turns out from soft bottom with rebound at 15 turns out from a soft bottom. I've seen stock DS's with riders about my size take the whooops but I can't.
Help.

umm ok here's my ideas, the whoops are all about speed, it's that u can hit them if u get in the right rythim, ( i forgot how to spell rythim) for me the compression is set so that the rear shock will suck up the full whoop without bucking me, so basicly the compression should be soft so the swingarm can move and do it's job, but of course not soft enough to bottom out, my idea about speed in regards to rebound is that u have to have some rebound controll to keep you from just bouncing all over the place, another example would be if that u just hit the next whoop and yer shocks were still compressed from the last one, then u would get a hit from it, rather then a suspension action, soooo if it's still compressed when u hit the next one, obviously the rebound is set way too stiff, BUT it's still all up to your riding style, i'm sure my shock settings wouls suck for alot of people, but who cares theyre not riding mine, your shock settings should fit your style. ummmm trial and error dude...

yeah, rebound dude. your rebound is too fast. For high speed whoops my rebound is only about 4 or 5 turns out. If you're getting bucked like a bronco, the rebound is too fast. turn it clockwise a few turns at a time until you get where you have the best control.
trial and error, like Josh says.

Also keep in mind if your rebound is too slow, your rear end will pack up. Basicly what that means is your swingarm won't have enough time to rebound to full/near full extension and whith every whoop you hit it gets progressively worse as it nears bottoming out
and starts to buck you off.
How I set my rebound is soften it untill it just starts to pack up on a LONG section of whoops, then go the other way a half turn or so (give or take).
The trick to getting your suspension set right is figuring out how to isolate and test (and recognize the symptoms) of each circuit. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether it's the compression or rebound setting that is bucking you.

Thanks josh, High and DSDune. I understand how the shock works and the theory, I guess I just wanted to compare my setting to others. I guess I just try to hit the whooops to fast. Usually I launch in second and grab third in the middle of the whoops. Great information though, Thanks again!
