Demon, you will not increase your mileage with a supercharger. I agree it makes the engine do more work with less throttle, but you are adding air, and all the supercharger kits I have seen add either a chip or new computer, these increase the fuel that is being injected.

I know of a couple supercharged v10's and they do not get increased mileage. I have owned two supercharged vehicles of my own, one was a 2001 lightning, and it did not get better mileage then the same truck with the regular 5.4 in it.

The best thing you can do to increase mileage is to slow down. But I have a real hard time doing that.

Pssst! I heard they're coming out with a hybrid F350 next year! It's supposed to get 50 MPG!

Free flowing exhaust, K&N/intake kit helps a little I guess, electric fan, underdrive pulleys, chip (but then you need premium, more $$$) they help a little and give more power.

Truly, the biggest gain is to slow down like Bat said - but who wants to drive slowe??? . Some people use those air deflectors on their trucks - I suppose they may help a little.

I can get 16 mpg with my F-250 on the Freeway at 75 mph with no load. This was from a trip to Vegas last fall. Once the Weekend Warrior is hooked up it drops to 8 mpg.

I get 11-12 around town with my 01 F250 V10 4x4 Supercab, 13-14 on the highway at normal speeds, 10-11 on the highway at 85mph (VA to ID), and 8 when pulling a 32 ft camping trailer or 6000lb boat. I have the 3.73 LS rear and think it's the best solution for my needs, 90% driving and 10% towing. If I towed more or had to tow through steep mountains, the 4.10 gears would be a good choice. I can't justify the diesel for the amount of towing that I do when calculated against the cost of the diesel engine and fuel.

GlamisDS650- Exactly, It's hard not to stomp the pedal. However if you do the math, going 65 instead of 75 is only a 6 minute difference. Over 3 hours that only puts you back 18 minutes. Is it worth it? Sometimes no sometimes yes.

AZSand- LOL!!! Only mods I'm gonna do it just to increase gas mileage. It should save money over time. She's ok with it. I just can't wait till she wants to start modding her DS. She'll know where I was coming from.

I think that I'm going to go with the K&N, however would it be just as good to just get the filter instead of the whole intake, it looks about the same. Is the intake a waste of money?

Here it is.....

Not sure how the entire intake works on the V10 vs. the filter only, however I do have the filter only on my 1998 F150 4.6L (I installed it shortly after I bought the truck) and I never noticed any difference in milage or power, I've never bothered to spend the extra cash on the intake, though I have always wondered what difference it would make if any.

Hey ubetrun and to all others. Yes you pay a few thousand more for a diesel then you say you are trying to "make up for the cost" There is no extra cost compared to a v10. Look at a v10 with 100k miles on it and look at a diesel with 100k miles on it. I guarantee you the diesel will be atleast if not worth more than the cost difference. In other words, you get your money back when you get to sell it.

Oh, another thing you can do for mileage is dont let the truck sitting at idle forever like when gassing up or whatever. On that v10, 30 minutes of idling burns 1 gallon of gas.
Just so you can compare. My ford diesel gets 10mpg towing our big trailer through the mountains and 12mpg when towing on the interstate. Loaded up the trailer is just under 10,000lbs. Empty i get 17-20 depending on how fast i want to go. This mileage is with my truck lifted. Before i lifted it i got 1mpg more across the board, guess i lost it to turning the bigger tires and pushing more air. Sean
