Glenn, Here's a couple of pics. I had to use part of my old stock air tube, because I accidentally trimmed a little too much of the piece of hose that you sent me!..lol I will test it out as soon as I can. Thanks!

from the tone of your posts, I assume you....
1) ran with filter directly to carb with little filter on breather hose
2) then ran with your extension and little filter on breather hose
3) and finally ran your complete setup
and determined that your setup resulted in the best performance??

Actually,
1. I got the filter in the mail from Marky
2. Didn't know what to do with the lines that were left after the filter was installed
3. Didn't think just sticking a filter on there was correct, because I knew the carb needed reference for the vacuum slide.
4. Made this little adapter thing to try out, but couldn't because my wrist is screwed from a wreck
5. Posted it on here and explained what I did
6. Got a couple e-mails from people wanting to try it
7. Made some (and still making some for those I e-mailed back) for people to try for me
8. Made it clear I wanted honest opinion on it
So now we'll wait and see if it works. If it doesn't, the people trying it won't be out anything since I didn't ask for any money. Just want the postage back if they like it.

This is exactly what I'm wondering about. I just changed to the carb mount with crank case breather and it seems I still got a decent bump in power. Although I also put on the 42 t rear so I'm not sure the carb setup really works. I can hear it sucking air like mad though so I'm guessing it was starving before. But if the vacuum theory is true would'nt you get no throttle at all? Seeing as how if the slide does not move up, no throttle?????

Gaskett sent me one of his adaptors to try.
I have been running the K&N clamp-on for two+ years and used a crankcase filter on the carb vacuum line.
After initially installing the K&N I was so pleased with the improved performanced that never thought I needed to reinstall the vacuum anywhere.
Installation of Gasketts adaptor is simple and straighforward any only took a few minutes.
My DS is street legal so after installation I took her out for a test ride.

Without the vacuum for reference she was hard to start when cold. Now she starts alot easier.
My seat of the pants impression is that it is much more responsive to throttle input and seems to have more power. The front end is lighter and wants to come up like never before.
I highly recommend you reconnect those vacuum lines if your using the stock carb with a clamp-on filter.
Glenn, I would recommend adding some length and trying to angle the intake side down a little. This would provide more clearence between the seat and filter. Maybe just a longer attachment boot would work. I don't think performance would be impacted and this would allow you to move the elbow back some as it's pretty tight getting the vacuum hose on it.

I'm working on a new design to get more seat clearance. Trying to fab an offset in the metal part of the adapter to get the clearance we so deperately need.
As soon as I get the kinks worked out, I'll send you one. Give me some time on this one though, I'm searching for the correct rubber sleeve (instead of the radiator hose piece) and I want to make this the "one".
