I have both and I can just like everyone else has stated the DS is definitely faster. You cant expect the Z400 to keep up with the DS mod for mod just like you also can't expect the DS to be as quick and nimble in the woods as the Z400 is. Decide what is more important to you and go from there.

Depends on what kind of track. A Z would flat out win hands down on a MX track with lots of turns and jumps or tight woods trail, but anyplace where power matters the DS is going to smoke the Z real bad.
A modded Z can be a fierce MX racer, Desert or Dunes goes to the DS.

Drag Raced a piped '03 Z400 on gravel and whipped him easily. Then I drag raced a stock 03' banshee on pavement and smoked him. No contest in either case.
