DShawk,,
Dont even worry about the stumble. I was worried also but went with the carb anyways. I took it out today for the first time with the carb and Garage Jetting and it ran GREAT! You wont ever worry about the stumble I watch my tach and I shift around 5000 rpms when the clutch is let go. So Even when I was at a dead stop , First fear winds so dang fast you amost dont need it. I dont even worry about it after todays ride, the carb made a differance for me. I did it seperate and that completed my stage 1. Now I am saving for the 11.5 piston and A1/A2 cames and springs

i run almost the same set up as hightower and this was my first weekend with the 45 well that is just about the exact setup i have except 47.5 on the pilot. the carb worked perfect, no stumbing what so ever. i don't have the pump hooked up and won't be either.i couldn't make it stumble, and i raced a lot then i went trail riding with the kids so lots of slow riding. then i did lots of wheekies and it worked perfect. oh and that cable thing worked great hightower

Sandman - I pulled my stock carb apart yesterday and realized that I indeed had that same little adapter piece for the ball on the end - I took it off the cable and put it back in the stock carb before I ever received the TM45 not realizing I would need it, and then when the 45 arrived I forgot I ever had the adapter!!
I have no dial-a-jet experience - I read the articles on it, but couldn't understand the real purpose. Its like another jet circuit added to the carb, which also requires fuel to be sucked by vacuum, like the other 4 circuits in the carb.
The issue with the flat slide Mikuni stumbling is only caused if you slam the throttle from idle to wide open - when I say slam I mean SLAM. You literally have to slam it to wide open immediately off idle to make any stumble occur, and this is caused from opening a huge flood gate of air and it takes a few milliseconds for the vacuum to make fuel catch up. The accelerator pump literally squirts, to fill this gap, but even more importantly the squirt actually does help acceleration from mid-throttle to full as well. But like Mud and Sand said - the kind of slamming that can cause it is not something that would or should ever really occur while riding, neither trails nor dragstrip.

i took mine to the shop to work on mine and that is the jetting we came up with they told me that the pump will work good for pure drag racing, but if you trail ride hard it will add fuel every time you give it fuel, thus it could start to flood the quad. again this would only happen on hard trail rides with on and off throotle

i don't think you would save gas, but if you start to flood you won't like the ride. and i don't know that it would be the case with the 42. hey let me know how you like those shrouds. there is a bolt behind the rad overflow tell me how you get that one in?

Thanks for everybodys input. A bunch of us went out yesterday. It was the first time I had ridden it after I put the Dial-A-Jet on. A few weeks back I installed the Stage 1 kit except for the carb. When I took it out the first time with I had the dyno jet needle in third groove and a 190 main jet. Low end and mid was vastly improved but it was really flat on the high end. I went to a 195 main and things started to pick up. I had read the Dial A Jet articles and understood that it helped detect any lean situations. I thought I could still get a little more out of it and since the Dial a Jet needs to have the main jet backed down a couple of jet sizes to work right, I figured it would be worth a try. Yesterday I did notice that it revved quicker and the top end also picked up. I'm pretty happy with the jetting right now. I am at about 3600 ft. But I keep reading in the forum that everybody says the TM45 really helps a bunch and I hate not to go for the better performance. I'll probably take the plunge. Again, thanks for the input. When I get into changing the carbs out, I sure I will be asking about the adapter for the throttle cable you guys have been talking about to run the stock cable.

GO TWIST!
I was just on my first run with the twist and I LOVE IT!!! I always hated it and my thumb used to get sore just from the stock carb. So I went twist when I went on the new carb and WOW I love it!!!.. I just have to remember to roll forward when I want to stop. That will come with some riding..
