Default Outlander 400HO In a Shortbed

I picked up my '04 Green Outlander 400HO tonight with a 2.5ci Warn winch. Traded my Arctic Cat 300 4x4, wow what a difference! The more I look at this ATV the more I like it. One problem, I loaded this into my F150 Shortbed and man is is a tight fit. I had to slam the tailgate shut hard, I noticed the front of the bed actually looks bowed. I guess this is alright, but that front bumper I was eyeing on the Bombardier website is probably not an option now. Maybe a new trailer is in my future..

Hey Beaubob, I just picked my 400 up as well the other day.I drive a GMC short box and it was real tight especially seeing I put a set of mud lites as well as a winch on mine.We had to lift the front over the box lip and slam the tailgate also. You could still get the extensions you will have to take off your tailgate and put a mesh net on the back of the truck.I am really enjoying this Quad also, its a fine machine.
Happy trails..........Mountainman

So both of you guys got your Outlanders in with the tailgate closed. Cool. I'm buying a couple of Outlander XTs this spring (if they come out before summer!) and was really wondering about that. I have a Dodge 2500 with a shortbox. The Bomb website lists them as 86" long. Shortbeds are only 78" so I wonder how they measure them? I imagine the XT's would be worse as they have the extra bumpers and winch.

Cheers,

You are just the guy I needed to talk to.... I am buying an ATV and was set to go with a Arctic Cat 500 - but I have taken a look at the Outlander 400 and I am curious now. What year was your Cat and why do you like the Outlander so much more?? I would appreciate any feedback to help make my decision easier. Thanks in advance!

Eastcos--; One ride on the new Outlander will answer all you ????? I kept my Cat it was & still is a good bike, better than most, but not in the same class even as the Out. I don't know how you guys are getting them in shortbed trucks, I deff would have to bend something to get the tailgate closed on the bed of my extcab Ford??

If I can get my new 400 into my Dodge Dakota then you can't have too many problems with a full size. Mind you, I couldn't close my tailgate unless I let out the air in the back tyres. And there is the issue with the wheel wells (They are about 1 inch closer together than my front wheels would like) But it fits. just.

But when you unload it, and your blasting down the trail, who cares!

Cheers.

Guys,

A friend of mine is looking hard at the Outlander and he would like to know what your "out the door" cost was.

Thanks,

ED

Believe it or not I can get my Outlander into my 4x4 extended cab Ranger. Yup its true. However I cannot close the tailgate but hey, it fits and I have aftermarket tires too. I do have to go over the wheelwells but that is ok so long as it goes on and off the truck! What a machine, its great. Just took er for a rip, passed the 350 mile mark.

I put my DS650 in the back of a ZR2 S10 extra cab and I can close the tailgate...
