Default Pros and Cons of a 2000 DS?

Could someone give me the pros and cons of a 2000 DS? My buddy is thinking of selling is 01 Raptor (before the tranny goes out) and has been looking at a used 2000 DS. He is a larger person, around 250 I believe, and likes the larger bike. He sure isn't happy with his Raptor, 2 stators, one way bearing, front shocks went out, just to name a few of his problems with it. Thanks a lot.

there good there is a few changes, but the front a-arms have a light steering so at high speed they seem to become, uncomfortable my two 01 don't bother me or my wife, but people bring it up a lot. if it bother him it is a easy fix. the fans go out on the radiator, but there not really needed a lot of us don't run them. and on the 00 the oil change takes a little more. that is about the only things of interest, other than that there bullet proof. there great in the dunes i would recommend, another machine for mx, but with his size the ds will be perfect.

I would have to say the pros of the ds is the dependability of it. you can not beat that rotax engine anywhere and. the long travel and rider freindly quad for the weekend warrior is all in one. the only problem with the 2000 ds is the tire, wheel combo i can't name how many times i had to bend my stock rims back to shape. and how quick the rev limiter kicks in if you spend about 400 you can pick up a knew one from alba racing.

There isn't any sand around here we can ride on, so mainly field, mild mx, and woods riding in Northern Wisconsin. Also we ride a lot in a pit, where a bent rim can happen very easily. What tire/wheel combo would you recommend? I have douglas .190 rolled edge rims and razors on my Predator, would something like that hold up better than what's on the 2000 DS? Thanks again.

I haven't had any reliability issues with my 2000 DS. If you are riding in the woods and gravel pits and dented wheels are common your best, and I think cheapest insurance, is to order the reinforcement rings from OMF and have them welded in on one or both sides. If I remember right the rears are around $24 ea. and the fronts were about $20 each.

Other than that run 22's for better ground clearance and get a 14T or 15T front sprocket. Then the rest of the mods will start....
