Anyone ever drag raced a banshee? If so how much did you beat him buy? I seen in atv action it said the ds whoops the banshee in top speed and acceleration, but then i seen somewhere else the ds is only 2/10 of a second faster.

By the way guys, I know I post a lot of questions about the ds, and some prolly sound pretty dumb, but you guys have really helped me out on deciding whether to buy this new canadian monster.I appreciate responses that aren't toally based on personal preference, but rather fact. And by the way, I have made a decision. I am 90% sure i'm going to buy a 2001 ds when they come out. I can't wait.

I've raced a stock, new Banshee. My DS was only aobut 4 hours old and I was having some jetting problems, but even then, he couldn't pull away and I was catching him. I also weigh about 100lbs more than the Banshee rider. So, if you weigh in around 180 or less, then you should have no problems beating up stock banshees any time you want.

I drag against a 1998 banshee with toomey t5's k&n filter and a special air box lid. He has everything jetted correctly (finally, had to help him on it needed those extra fingers) and it runs strong. My 2000 DS will run with him. It depends who gets the holeshot as to who wins. Also, he cannot get it into 6th before we start slowing down. As for top speed, I was running with him being in 6th and me in 5th when I got the bike broke in good.

The DS doesn't have a chance. Even the stock bashee will do it.
GOOD LUCK

Are you nuts read the magazines! Not one stock banshee can beat a stock ds in a drag or top speed. It can probably win in the tight trails cause the ds is a lot wider.

The only time I have had any dealings with the DS has been at the dunes of Little Sahara, Utah. The DS did beat a few stock banshees but never with one that had been piped. Even my honda 426ex will beat the DS with a stage one kit up sand mountain.
I am not bashing on the DS, I think they look great. But they are not as advertised in the magazines. I think they need more mods because of the extra weight.

Some of the drag racing has to do with the skill of the rider. I am not that skilled, and am getting better with practice. Same skilled riders, the DS is faster. By the way, how much was your kit to make your 400 a 426??

I bought my 400ex brand new and with all the mods I am into it less than a brand new stock DS...

Yea, but it's still a 400EX! Shorter, narrower with problems of it's own, like bad trailing arm, weak spindles, and weak frame from the reports that I have heard and read in the magazines.

Granted, the 400EX is a Honda, and usually they make exeplarary machines, but their is a few weaknesses. But, like my previous posts, just about every machine has them.

It's been discussed that if you were to upgrade a 400EX to have similar equipment (wide a-arms, longer trailing arm, long travel suspension and all that) it would cost more to modify the 400EX than to just buy the DS.

I was really close to buying the 400EX. I waited for over a year from the time I first heard about it. When I finally sat on one, it just seemed too small for me. I could easily rock it from side to side and get the wheels off the ground. Granted, that would make it more nimble and great for woods riding and such, but I felt cramped up sitting on one. After sitting on the DS, I knew instantly that that was the one I was going to buy. The money didn't matter, because I knew I was going to be happier with the DS. Plus, it was basically already modified with wider stance, long travel suspension, great looks (though, not to some) and the most powerful ATV engine ever!

So, if the DS had not come out, I would be riding a new 400EX, or I would have spent the money on a full restore on my 350X (which I may still do).

Heck, if Honda decides to build something to compete against the DS in the 600-650 cc range with similar size and capabilities, I may sell the big yellow bomber and get that instead.

Yamaha appears to be building one, if you beleive the so called spy photos in the magazines. Though, that experimental bike appears to have DS650 rear fenders (painted blue, but you can see a tint of yellow under the blue with the light shining through) and the front grill looks like the DS, only with the headlight replaced by some vertical slats for a grill. It looks like they went out and bought a DS, painted it blue, put a Banshee trailing arm on it, Banshee gas tank, attached Banshee front fenders to the gas tank area, put some kind of big four stroke engine in it and attached some funky headlights under the nose/grill thingy above the shockes. The front shocks even look the same as the DS.

We'll see. Laters,
