Does Ron Woods Stage 1 Deliver?
#2
One thing I guarantee you they will deliver.....a nice fat bill on next month's credit card statement! Aside from that, yeah...it's money well spent. Although I'm still not sold on the idea of the bigger carb on a stock (internally) motor.

i have a stage two that has a hard time with my wife cdi gears and a woods pipe, no carb, and i'm only 45 ponds heavier. so it kind of depends. it is a good place to start with the components.

LISTEN UP FELLAS!!!!! If you are going to get the Ron Wood Stage one kit get the whole thing including and especially the 45mm carb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 45mm carb is what gives that kit the extra Humf!!!!! Trust me I know!!!! I just saw first hand this weekend what that carb does for power!!!!.

If I may put my two cents in here......
Angry, You are in California, Wide open dune's and desert.
zZArAZz, is in Ohio, Mostly trails and race tracks. No dunes and no desert.
I dynoed my bike a week ago with the carb that MudStud has. This carb and set up put out around 48hp. BUT the key to this was the torque. It was flatlined.....Well, it was a platue. The people that were with me had never seen a torque curve so smooth and over a huge amount of RPM's.
What does this mean? In the country riding the trails, you have power everywhere in the RPM range. With the larger carb's, you will shift your RPM range higher and have a sharper peak in torque. I, myself, would rather have a controllable flat line torque curve then a sharp "HIT" in tight trails.
This is my opinion. I am not saying that one thing is better than another because in the right situation, they both ROCK! I just wanted to let zZArAZz know what I have witnessed with the smaller HSR 42mm carb.

just some info.....i personally have tried both carbs, and with the 45 mm i literaly broke teeth off of my clutch gear from tooo much bottom end torque and had to replace it!!! with the 42mm i just laughed at the substantial power loss..but then again i tested it with a 105.5mm piston with a few mods and still got more bottom end out of bigger carb. maybe the 42 was not jetted right ..heck what do i know im just a rummy!!!!!right.. I recomend a big bore and a whole lot of tuneing, if you want to see any more of a power gain worth while! go big..you'll thank me when you go home victorious..your welcome for talking you in to the real power ANGRY...peace out

angry i put the 45mm on a month and a half ago, i thought things should be great so having the two ds's it is easy to see where thing come in at, so the wife and i line up at our comp and i'm ready to show her what i have, and of the line she got pounded, half way up the hill she caught me. and from there it was about even. since i have figured out that the 10 paddle 22" are to much paddle for how wet our sand is right now. but at first i was ready to borrow your name, but then as the sand dried the paddle thing changed and i was able to win by 3 quads. so the differences are there as you say but in some cases people might not see the results you mention even though there there. and those are just the results on a hill race. when we are trail riding i have noticed that with the over paddle and the carb the front comes up real easy so for duning it is a great thing to have i would feel very comfortable on a trail ride with that set up.

Yeehaww,
I ride mostly at a place called Honda Hills, a half hour East on 70 from Columbus. They have a great track and lots of trails with a few decent hill climbs, and we made a small drag strip in a open field. The trails are really tight so I am never hammering it. Where I am most concerned is with the drag racing. I have two 03 Baja's. The one I ride has a Yosh Pipe, jetted with Air box lid removed. And I am losing every race against my 200 pound buddies on my stock quad. We switch and I ride the Stocker and its like my piped quad is slower. I am just dissapointed with the performance I am getting right now and I want to make sure when I spend money to go faster I really am going to go faster
I can hammer down on the track but I never really get out of 3rd gear... Also throwing around a 500 pound quad on the track wears me out really quickly. So mainly the most fun I have is Drag racing. However I am looking forward to shaking off this winter weight gain and getting in better shape and really tearing the track up this summer.
Just wanted to mention the 6 ply Razr tires I got really help out on the track compaired to the stock tires. I can really just drop the clutch around turns and get no roll, the stock tires just lean over almost down to the rims.
Thanks for the help guys, any dyno numbers from stock to the stage 1 kit?
Mabye I should put the Yosh on my stock quad to slow down my competition?
