Billet aluminum bumpers or how to add 40 lbs to a DS
I heard of this forum at snakehunt and can say after an hour of reading i learned more about my DS than i thought i could know. I own the DS in the e-bay ads for the bumper and the rear bar. They are a little heavier than stock but i think they look 10 times better. My neighbor is building them. He has a small machine shop in his garage. The side plates for the rear bar are 2 inches tall and with the one inch slot machined out you still have one inch total top and bottom which should be plenty strong enough. I only weigh about 155 so i don't get to concerned when i add or subtract a few pounds off my bike. I hope to learn more the more i browse subjects. And i thought i was probably the only one that got a big gun pipe that didn't fit well or have a great finish.

Unclebone, those are nice bumpers but way to much money why does he want so much money. How are the actual straight bars fitted into the piece? And you should tell him to start putting some stainless bolts on the fronts because those black ones I feel take away from the look. Just an idea, i think they would look even better.

I like the looks of the bumper a lot, and have considered buying one. The only thing that's holding me back is the price of it. I just don't want to feel like an *** after I hit the send money button. I don't know, I may buy it, but then again I may not, or I may, or maybe not. Probably not though, but I might.

the long bar on the front bumper is held in place by set screws in the back of the side plate. The back bar has a hole drilled in it from the underside through the side plate and the bar. He then drives a steel dowel with locktite on it into the hole. He is getting stainless bolts but didn't have them at the time he took pictures. They cost what they do because he had to figure in the time to design them and time it takes to write a program so the mill cuts them out right and the time it takes to machine them and the cost of getting them polished is not to cheap. I helped him polish the ones on my bike and it wasn't that fun. I hope i answered most of the questions. If you buy them, i know you won't be dissapointed. I know i may be a little biased but he is critical of his own work and won't put out any junk.
