DS won't wheelie...DS the problem or is it me??
#11
Dude my baja is completely stock, motor wise, and I have absolutely no problem with wheelies not to mention I have +1 inch forward a-arms and weigh 290lbs. If your tires arent slippin then you just aint givin it enough gas. Use the clutch it works

well, if practice doesn't work for let me put it like this, it isn't the machine that can't wheelie its the rider, no the ds isn't the machine to just get out of the box and have the front come up like a honda. i couldn't wheelie mine when i got it either, even tried on pavement with not much luck, but after riding and tring for a while i started to get it, now i can be in the dirt with those lame kendas and the front will start to come up, and yes that is the one with less stuff than yours, so use the clutch and practice it will come to you and think about those gears, and yes count the teeth on the sprocket, if there is 16 on the front one get a 15 or 14, use lock tight when you put it back together. and if you think i'm not telling you the truth ask yourself why these guys are putting on longer swingarms

Tyrespinner tires play a great deal on how the DS wheelies.I have a 2001 that I ran the first season with the stock kendas then I switched to the ohtsu's that came stock on the 2002 baja. What a difference the bike hooks up a 100 times better and will wheelie any where like going up sand hills, loose gravel etc.The stock kendas you always had to clutch it into a wheelie. Not with ohtsu's you just gas and go.My bike is stock and has stock gearing and I can wheelie 1st to 5th on a cat walk no problem.Like Sandman said the DS has a very high balancing point a takes a little to get use to.I would say you have traction problem Tyrespinner.Going from the 22in tire to the 23in tire on the front got rid of all the twitchyness the early DS were known for."That is just my 2 cents worth"

try it in second gear come to a complete stop then rev it up and dump the clutch it will come up real easy and sec gives you pleant of rpms to ride the wheelie out .i can go miles in sec straight up ..practices it this way then once you get it. you will be able to clutch it up any time you want .
i personaly can sit on the handl bars and still wheelie the ds in sand ,gravel .. 6,5 230 .
so the ds can wheelie with the best of them

I have a similar set-up as you, except I have a TM42 not a 45. I also have the 22" Sur Traks with a 15T front and stock rear sprocket. I am still experimenting with jetting to get it perfect, but... I can wheelie at will in the woods in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 1st and 2nd easily without even being on the back of the seat, in fact a lot of the times in technical sections I am standing on the pegs and a stab of the gas and gets the front end up. 3rd gear requires a little tug on the bars. It really sounds like your not tuned right or you just need the seat time on it to get it right.

Ok I see the problem here buddy..
I looked at your pics.. You have 22 tires on there with the stock 16/40 gearing.. Thats no onder why you cant lift up the front end.
www.rockymountainatv.com and get your self a 15 and 14 tooth front sproket.. The 15/40 with 22 tires is just a bit taller then stock the 14/40/22 is just a bit shorter then stock but much more power.. thats what you want for low end..
I run the 14/40/22 and its great. The top end is about 70 just abit slower then stock but its wicked fun on the bottom.

i run 22in realtors with my stock gearing and have no problem lifting the front i was telling him to try them from a dead stop to get the fell of having the ds,s front end in the air . i can pull my front in 1st threw 3rd with power and can clutch it up in 4th and 5th .
