ds on a diet
#2
Frankly, in my opinion if you were to weigh the DS and a 400ex (minus motor) there wouldn't be that much difference (maybe 25-50lbs). Keep in mind, the DS is built the way it is for structural integrity. An aluminum swing arm doesn't sound like a bad idea, good lucky trying to find one though! I'm perfectly happy with my DS the way it is.
You could try lighter rims and tires.

Chromolly frame, a-arms and trailing arms. Titanium axle, aluminum handlebars, removing front fenders(5lbs. for the fender supports) or getting new fender supports made from chromolly. Aluminum nerf bar in front and grab bar in back.
These are all items that would make it as strong or stronger than stock and lighten it up.
To lighten it up for drag racing, there is a lot more you can do like an aluminum frame and other components mentioned above, but, don't think of jumping it, this would be strictly for sand drags.
Or, in my case, go on a diet! :-)
Good luck,
