Kazuma 50 won't run
#1
Hi
I posted to the end of another topic by accident. This is where I wanted to be.
My Kazuma 50 is about 3 months old. Last week it lost power and wouldn't idle. It will start when cold but once it warms up, forget it. I called KazumaUSA and a guy from Jackal Motorsports told me it was the CDI. I bought one and it didn't fix the problem. I searched this forum and found posts about cleaning the carb. I pulled it off and did my best to clean it. Yes I removed the idle and mixture screws to clean in there. Now it won't start at all. Obviously I don't have them set correctly. I backed the mixture out 2 turns CCW just like the book said but I wasn't sure about the idle so I did it the same amount. It smells like it's flooding.
I'm not a small engine guy and I don't know carbs but I think I have one of these problems:
1. Carb was ( maybe still is) dirty.
2. Idle/mixture not set right.
3. Valves need adjustment. (With plug out, cranking the engine blows my finger off the hole so it has some compression)
4. I should have bought a Honda.
Thanks in advance.

#1 if you were getting a spark they should not have told you it was the CDI box. But anyway I think only 2 turns out for the idle is a little to less. I think it should be at least 4 turns out. Set the idle screw and shut the gas off and drain the carb. It probably is flooded if you smell gas. After you drain the carb put the choke all the way up and try to start it without giving it any gas! The Kazuma 50 is a real basic system, if you are getting spark and you have compression (and getting fuel to the carb) it should fire. I have seen the carbs here and there just foul up. If all does not fix the problem I suggest you get a new carb. Most of the times when all else failed I send people a carb and it fixed the problem. You might also what to make sure that the intake tube (that aluminum neck going from the front of the carb to the motor) does not have any cracks. I have seen them crack and then you will have to much air getting in there. That will screw things up for you to. Let me know. You can also give me a call tomorrow if you would like.

It's funny you said that about the CDI. If you new what I did for a living you would say I'm an idiot. He told me they get hot and start cutting out. He made his sale. Anyway, I'm going to try your advice and if nothing works I might just get another carb. Thanks for your quick response. I might be writing back to you here shortly.
