yep definetely an engagement issue then, or your engine is stuck!! Good luck with it man, hopefully they'll make it right for you.

 

When I had the side cover off the motor to check the flywheel gear I was able to turn the motor over by hand so I dont think the motor is siezed. I also turned the motor over with the starter and all the gears inside are moving freely. The starter works both in and out of the motor. Would a bad battery also cause this if if was damaged internally?

 

Ok, I switched out the cables with a thick car battery cable and that fixed the overheating issue. I tested the batt and it said it was good. When we tested it while trying to crank over the engine it said replace. If a cell was bad in the battery would it cause all these problems? Could the timing have jumped forward and could that cause the overheating with the wires? Im going to try replacing the batt anyway to see if that helps.

 

The overheating wires was caused by drawing too much current. Either because of the starter motor being held back (not engaging properly or internal problem) or a poor connection. The only way the timing would effect this is by advancing it, it requires more force to turn the motor over. It shouldn't be great enough of a difference, unless the starters in those things are really cheap.

 

Ok I got it fixed, Apparently either the positive or neg wire had a break in it somewhere and was causing it to short out. Which in turn I think ruined the battery. I replaced the cables with 6 gauge car battery cable and replaced the battery. It starts right up no problem and the wires are no longer getting hot. Very frustrating but it had to be something simple. Thanks for all the help trying to locate my problem.
