Dead Meercat 50
#1
After a year of flawless service the 50 died this weekend. My daughter was riding along playing follow the leader and it just stopped. Ignition on, kill switch on, push the start and nothing. No cranking, nothing. Cables are all attached. Where do I start to trouble shoot? I'm one of the Redcat/ Kazuma supports that is "mechanically challenged!"

Your right on the kick start/ pull start. There is kind of a delema on the pushing it. With my daughter on it she is so light that the wheels just skid when I push her. I'm afraid to put too much weight on it because of other posts I've read about cracking the intake manifold. I didn't have our SUV with us last weekend and had to leave the 50 at the cabin so I'm trying to get ideas to try this coming weekend.
I think it has to be electrical or it would at least crank over. Wadboy suggested the fuse and it does have one that like an idiot I didn't check..

You should sit on it and have your daughter push
I crack myself up.
If you have the time, it makes sense to check all the electrical stuff first. If it was mid weekend and you were going to lose 1/2 day of riding time... Time to borrow a bigger kid and push start it.
Good luck, let us know the fix.
I'm probably going to get my daughter a MeerKat from Raceway. Are you happy with it overall? How tall is your daughter? Does she fit on it OK? How much growth room do you think she has? (both in size and in speed) I know you can crank the MeerKat down to 5 mph, then open it up as skills develop. How long has your daughter been riding, and how fast are you letting her go?
Thanks,
Doug

We've had the 50 for about a year. I have two daughters, 6 and 9 and both are pretty tiny. (42 inches and about 48 inches and maybe 48 pounds soakin wet.) I originally bought it for them to SHARE....... Like you, I crack myself up. Anyway, pretty quickly we purchased one of the smaller Redcat 110's for the older. The size of the 50 is still okay for the younger and will be okay for this year. I did buy one of the new 90s for the older daughters friends to ride when we take one along and at some point that will become Andrea's. Right now her hands are so small that she has trouble with the handbrakes but the 50 has a foot brake.
The six year old has ridden that 50 almost every weekend without any problems until this popped up. I did put on wheel spacers to give it a wider stance and now we don't throttle it down. There are about 5 other kids that ride 50 to 90cc ATVs and play follow the leader around our cabin. They often go through a tank of gas each day. Even with this problem now I wouldn't hesitate to buy the same ones again.

Ratracer, if you email me, I will reply with an electrical schemo of the 50 to help track the cause. Need to know if its a 2004 or 2005 to get you the correct version.

Thanks to everyone. The Meerkat rides again!
Skip I was able to go online and find electrical schematics but thanks for the offer.
I borrowed all sorts of testing equipment from a friend. Got down to the cabin, took off the plastic and even I could immediately see the problem. The wire that has the fuse in line had separated. The wires are just press fits and somehow pulled apart. Oh well, I told you guys I was challenged. I soldered the two press fits and fired it up. My daughter went through another full tank of gas and the Meerkat keeps on racking up the hours. She rides it so much I am changing the oil every time I turn around. Again thanks to everyone
