I am pretty sure the Wilderness ATV 250 is a clone of the Yamaha bear tracker 250. The specs are identical as well as the mechanicals. Go to yamaha's website and look through the manual for the 2004 bear tracker. The pictures show that it is mechanically the same ATV. Not suprising since JianShe makes parts for Yamaha. Anyhow I wonder if the parts will be compatible.

Check out page 74 (7-10) of the manual. It shows how to set the speed limiter. It is identical to the one on the wilderness 250

Duuude,

Did you even read the article? Where did you get the idea they own 50% of each other? It's a joint venture to market Yamaha-branded cycles for sale in China. Yamaha will own 35% of the joint venture and the two existing Yamaha joint ventures will be merged into one, called Zhouzhou Jianshe Yamaha and they will handle the manufacturing. You need to read it again, brother.

Yeah... I realized that after reading the second article...thanks for the correction.

The first link contained this statement which I based my post on... after reading the second article I realized my mistake but didn't correct my post.

First article
http://www.jym.com.cn/english/company/ecompany.htm

Statement in it...
"Investment Percent: 50% each"

I liked the first one enough that my wife bought one to, i picked it up at Canadian tire ( this time i just picked up the crate and put it together myself).
After putting it together and taking it for a drive i noticed this machine was a little different from my first one.
The first thing i noticed was that clutch was slipping, i made an adjustment and it fixed the problem.
Second thing was that it kept stalling(only when going fast or heavy demands on throttle), problem was that the fuel line was so short that it had a kink in it, so i replaced with longer line and problem solved.
Third thing was digital display, when i turn machine off and restart it, the odometer goes back to zero. Not a big deal to me and i will call baja about it.
After working out these bugs the machine works good.
One last note
The boot on the drive shaft was half off and i had to put it back on and retighten the clamp.
I guess the guy on the assembly line was day dreaming when this one was put together, or it was built on a friday.

How do you find the shifting on your second one? Mine is stiff but loosens up when it warms up. It is a little hard to shift into second. I think it will probably wear in and get smoother with use. Also the manual says that it can be started in any gear. I could only start mine in neutral at first. Then I was able to start it in 1st but no other gear. I adjusted my clutch according to the manual thinking it would help with the sticky shifter but it didn't. It says to turn the adjustment ccw until you feel resirtance then turn it 1/8 turn cw and lock it down. How much resistance do they mean? Till you notice the screw getting harder to turn ccw or till it won't turn any more ccw?

Canadian Tire filled my tires up to 32PSI...which is ok for a gravel road but way above the 3.3 and 4psi they recommend for off road use.

Thanks,
Brendin

the shifting on mine is okay and i have my tires around 3 to 4 psi (need to get proper low tire gauge)
i adjusted my clutch as follows:
i losened lock nut and when i went to turn adjusting bolt ccw it was so tight i could not move it.
i turned it cw untill it was lose then i turned it ccw untill i felt some resistence, i then turn it cw 1/8 and tightned locknut.
this solved my slipage problem.
i hope this helps

I hope it is a bear traker clone as yamaha will be an additional source of parts. The yamaha 250 timberwolf, 250 bear tracker and 250 bruin are all very similar - mostly cosmetic upgrades, I think. We have no problem getting parts for the timberwolf - even oddball parts after 13 years.

I am surprised that they are selling many of this size chinese bike, however. You can buy new honda recons or 250 bruins around here for about $2800 (U.S.) now. Apparently the price difference is Canada is greater.

Well last fall they wanted just under $5K for the honda or yamaha 250 up here. Heck they wanted over $3k for the little Honda 90 quad!
