bill2099 is exactly correct here.

I am the guy he is talking about replacing the rear sprocket. The Dingo 150 is long gone (replaced by a Honda Rancher), but if I remember correctly, the smaller rear sprocket ($25.00) got me to 38 MPH with the motor screaming. I think it would do 33 MPH (or somthing like that) before the sprocket swap. 38 was all that I was comfortable with on that machine. It was not very stable over 35 mph.

These speeds were obtained using a hand held GPS. Not a seat of the pants "Guess" or pacing another quad or car with a speedo.

All these 150 engines with a CVT transmission are the same to my knowledge, so I have some reservations about claims of more than 33 mph from this combo. The Dingo has bigger tires than the others so that would yield even greater speeds than the "sport" ATV's.

Would the uni air filter that I have increase top speed? Or would I just get more power?
Also, is your yamoto all stock? Thanks.

It wont affect top speed but will help with acceleration some. My Yamoto 150 has a Answer muffler/spark arrestor, wheel spacers and a uni air filter. And i put a different shock on the rear of it too.

Top speed is only signifiacantly effected by a gearing change. Doing engine mods can get you to top speed quicker but the final speed will be about the same do to the fact that speed is based on engine max. RPMS and gear ratios. If neither of those are alterered, then top speed will not change.

Think of it this way, If you have a boat with a 150 HP outboad motor on it, and the boat will go 70 MPH, adding another identical 150 HP outboard motor will not make the boat faster, however it will get up to top speed faster.

The gearing and RPMS's have not changed with the addition of the extra motor.

If I get a big bore kit Im looking at, will it get more top speed then? And mwq, where did you get the answer pipe system? Thanks.

No, you will just get there quicker. But you will be able to pull the gearing necessary for more top speed. I modified a Answer S/A Pro from my CR500. I have heard that FMF makes a universal Spark Arrestor that will fit with a little modification.

Exactly.

atvmike,

I'm going to refer you back to my previous post. Read it once more. I think it will become a little more clear how you achieve a higher top speed vs. acceleration.

Thanks for the replies. Mwq, how did you modify the answer pipe? I didnt know you could
put a two-stroke pipe on a four stroke. Would a blaster silencer work on my 150? Thanks.
And I would like to ask you something too, prezzz. Would a high performance cdi box give
me a faster top speed because it lets you rev higher? Thanks for any replies.

Yep.....that would do it. More Rpm's more get you more top end speed. But, there's always a trade off. If you run your engine outide the design limits of the factory, I can almost promise you the engine will not survive for long.

Can calculate speed at any RPM if you have a known speed at a certain rpm. It's a linear equation.
