Default Tight Chain!!!!!

Just bought a PowerMax 150cc on Sat. the drive chain seems "REALLY" tight.
Just wondering should there be some deflection in the chain and What do you guys/girls do to lube them?
Any tricks.......beside the normal chain spray!!..Thanks....Caper.......

I use some sort of black label chain lube. It is suppose to be the best (according to the local honda/etc dealership parts guy who rides ATVs.)

2-3cm is standard chain sag. The chain on my quad gets more loose when you compress the shock, and tighter when you pick up the rear end. I usually tighten it until the tensioner pushes into it about 1-2cm when the quad is sitting without me on it. Then it doesn't hit the frame when I sit, and it doesn't get taunt when I pick up the rear end.

There is one called "Black Label" which is a product name under a certain brand. Any grease is better than none, and if you check a big-name ATV dealer, they should be able to point you twards something that will work well.

This is normal on every Chinese quad I have ever seen. I adjust(loosen) them so there is about 1/2 to 3/4" of slack.

tight drive chain is normal for new bike, it will be ok in a few days of drving. doesn't need to loosen drive chain, otherwise these deeds may damage it. while the bike is out of factory, its drive chain has been adjusting perfectly.

Welcome to the forum sunlbright!

I have to strongly disagree with your advice. A tight chain may be "normal" on a chinese quad, but its not right. And then to say to loosen it may cause damage is ridiculous. If nothing else it speeds up the wearing process. Not to mention the damage a too tight chain could do to the engine cases and or the bearings in the cases and the rear axle.

If its OK to be real tight when its new...why not keep tightening it everytime its gets a little loose?
